Your turf is done. The black turf on the front foothold doesn't look bad with the gray. I left the rear uneven on the corners because I don't know what your plans are for there. Let me know and we will get it fixed up.

One thing I wasn't thrilled about:

There was a small gap where blue pad shows behind the left foothold between the side and the bottom turf piece. I think I can get a sliver of turf glued in there to hide it.

your turfing my ski next time i need it. Lol looks GREAT

those xft's are mounted in a nice spot! i wish they would have been that far forward on my ski. if they would have been that far forward i would have kept them. i like how you turfed over the whole hold and tray with one piece instead of leaving that painted part of the xft showing. The only thing is now they king of look like rev's with enclosures.

looking good though. i wish you would have done my turf. i suck!!!!

John had fiberglassed on the painted part so we deicided to cover it up. It could still be cut out and the glue cleaned up.

I think the biggest thing that mcdog does that I know I didn't do was pre-plan and measure...

Although my kawi wasn't horrible... When I did it, the second time, I just got a measurement for how long and wide the sides would be and added an inch. Then I just started 'wingin' it' from there. Lay it in and trim the edges. Mcdog knew before he laid a drop of glue that I didn't have enough turf.

Well this is as good as I can get the chamber with the tools/supplies that I have now. Compared to the chromed chamber on my 750, this looks more like brushed aluminum than polished.

If anyone has any ideas on how to polish it up better than this, let me know.

a rouge wheel with tripoli rouge, then finish it off with a different wheel with fine plastic polishing rouge. it will looks like the stainless one under it.

who ever had my b-pipe before me put some rubberized paint on it and I tried to get it off, but it wouldn't come off. i used paint thinner, carb cleaner, gas... whatever it is the chit is tough so i left it on there. it looks like primer gray. It doesn't look bad and water won't leave spots on it.

I painted mine with silver high temp paint out of a can. No shine but it looks fine. I've heard that saltwater will really fubar a polished pipe. My wife's pole is polished(he he he!) and it has to be repolished every few months to keep looking good from just freshwater and oxidation.

Gotta love harbor freight! Rouge bars are expensive and I didn't know of any place that had them locally. However, harbor freight has their own version and it's $4 for a 1/4 lb. and a 6" stitched wheel for $5. I already had the angle grinder and went to town...

The pipe polished up rather nicely. In hindsight though, if I hadn't used the scotch brite pad, the pipe wouldn't have those little swirled scratches but whatever. It still has a decent mirror finish so I'm gonna mark this one in the "win" column. :bigok:

PS - It looks better in person but I wanted to show something reflecting back.

with the wheels and wax I have at work I would have that thing looking like a glass mirror in about 30 minutes. I have about 15 different sized and stitched wheels with three grades of rouge. I use the worn out wheels to polish the inside of my exhaust manifolds. the hard tempered aluminum these pipes are made of takes a lot of tripoli to seal the surface off. the more use the pipe gets, the harder the aluminum gets from getting heat tempered.

It does look like a glass mirror in certain spots but the deep scratches are preventing it from looking any better. I spent over 2 hours trying to remove those scratches with everything from 400 grit to 4000 grit to fine steel wool. I even got some deep cutting compound to take out the little stuff but the deep scratches are not worth the effort to me. It looks good now and the first time big water droplets form on it, I'll probably wipe it off with a dirty rag and put new scratches on it anyway.

Mcdog did a really good job turfing the ski. I decided to weigh it for sh*ts and giggles... It came in at about 115-120 lbs with paint, turf, foam, scupper, and holds. After doing some research, that seems about right so I guess I'm good so far. Seems heavy though!

I bought some red vinyl paint because I thought painting the chin pad red would look good. However, now that I see it on the ski, I'm thinking a black or silver would look a whole lot better. The red just seems a little over the top to me. What do you guys think?

lose the cover and turf it... it will match the tray... plus the gray looks good next to the black pole.
