Which Tubbies should I get? Race or Freeride?

I understand there are 2 kinds of Tubbies. Racing Tubbies and Freeride Tubbiess. It’s my understanding that the Racing Tubbies give riders limitations in the surf because of how the ski rides (or reacts) on waves. What I’d like to know if Racing Tubbies also have limitations on Freestyling on flat water.

I want to be able to carve really well, but I don’t want to do anything that may limit my progress in learning freestyle tricks. I’m hoping to be able to have the best of freestyling and carving in the same set of tubbies. Is this possible?

racing tubbies will not limit your abilities. I have them and so do most of the people I know and we all ride surf.

I have only ridden my tubbie I's on the lake once since installing, but they made my ability to carve and cut 100x better. it was ridiculous how much better the ski handled.

I have the 2's and I ride 100% in the surf... some say they like the 1's better, but it's just personal preference...

i haven't bought them yet. just posted the thread a little while ago. but i'm planning on getting Blowsion Racing Tubbies Type 2. I'll probably order them later on today.

i have 2's also and i ride mostly surf. Blowsion installed mine and those are the ones they recommended.

you may want to wait to purchase...after being at the daytona freeride i think blowsion is unveiling a tubbie 3....i hope i just didn't let the cat out of the bag :aargh4:

To clarify the difference between the two models, what we have done is recessed a concave shape into the bottom leading edge of the Tubbie II sponson to create a harder / sharper edge for turning and tracking. This Race Model Tubbie Two (Part #AWCO213) grips better in turning and is more stable in straight line high speed riding. The Rec/Freeride model (Part #AWCO212) are very stable, but have some nose wandering at mid throttle due to the curved chine riding back and forth on the bow wave. This is very beneficial in freeriding as the ski is able to be more forgiving and reacts better to a variety of directions and water flow angles. The Race Model Tubbie Twos are more aggressive, but less forgiving riding over the tops of waves diagonally. If you are a rider/customer that has the Rec/Freeride model (#AWC0212), and you wants to try racing, the Freeride model can be mounted 4-5 Millimeters up from the bottom of the hull. This will create the same effect of the Race Model Tubbie Two.

or you could fill the channel in the race version with cabosil. filling is easier.
