I want to learn tricks and stuff and just have a blast during the summers!!! I dont mind buying an old ski and having to do some work on it, which i prefer because i want to know the ends and outs of what im riding!!!! So really i want a project ski and be able to have fun with it this summer!!!! Any imput would be helpful from any of you guys!! I love this site, its so helpful!!!

This is easy! Get a Superjet with a 701 motor, that is all that really matters. Beyond that, get the nicest one you can find. Footholds are a big plus, aftermarket pipes are a big plus, etc.

I'm not going to make a recommendation on what you get because once you get one, you'll have to get more. The only thing I would suggest is to get your first one that doesn't need any work. That way you can ride it immediately. No matter what you get there will always be things to work on with it. After the first one you can get anything you find and when your tired of working on it for the day/week you have the other one to have fun on.

Yeah, there is always plenty of wrenching to do when you start adding goodies. Buy something in good running condition for your first ski and add stuff as your skills increase.
There are some decent deals out there on skis that have already been built up, but then you don't get to know how to do things yourself and don't know the quality of the work.

A SuperJet with a 701 is a great place to start. The early years...95 and older were called a Square Nose(SN) and 96 and newer get called Round Nose(RN). I actually love the feel of my old SN, but there are more aftermarket hoods and stuff out there for RN. I would lean you that direction if you have the money. I saw a RN on here a few weeks ago with a B pipe for like $2,200. Something like that would be a GREAT way to start.

RN = roundnose (1996 and newer yamaha superjet)
SN = squarenose (1995 and older yamaha superjet)

if you can afford it, get a roundnose. squarenoses, are, well, FUGLY.

but if you cant get a roundnose, at least GET A SUPERJET, and get a 701cc or bigger engine

dont waste your money on anything else.

unless youre mega-rich, then get one of these custom builders' skis all done up with storker motors and carbon fiber stuff all over it and a sweet paintjob!!!

advice

cheapest and in my oppinion smartest thing to do would be to snag up a SN with a few basic mods already done (ie pipe, head) and learn how to ride on that. then if and when you get better and decide you really want to stay in the sport for a while take that motor out and grab a RN hull then. just too much more money to justify typically imo.
of course i actually like the SN a little more...they have character...which is to say perhaps they are just a TAD aestetically unappealing to the untrained eye :laugh2:

My recommendation is to go cheep first. 550s here can sell for as low as $500. I can think of 3 right now that the owner will sell together for $500.
