best way to learn. i got lucky and brett let me learn on his ski. luckly it was pretty easy and it came out great. maybe just a little too much resin but its good.

i just noticed you didnt grind out the ribs. your going to wish you did.

oh and #1!

Eh well see biggest issue with the ribs right now that I foresee is when my B pipe goes in but well see.

yeah thats the JK ski that inspired me, the color scheme though now that I look at that makes me want to lean more towards #1... the black in this picture consumes the ski and makes it really dark. hmm:dunno:

Last weekend I cleaned up all the excess or hanging material the best i could.
I sanded down the edges so my hands can stay in one piece over maintenance.

I forgot my camera the next day :stooges: but I laid up 2 layers of 1 oz around the nose then one layer of 12 oz bioweave followed by 3 more layers of 1 oz. I think she will be able to handle a shallow stab or two now.

I then busted out my hood and got my 220 grit paper on a block, a sponge, bucket of water, fogged it with black, and went to town on it. After about an hour and a half of sanding it is ready for paint whenever I take the hood and the ski into my fiberglass shop. All the high and low spots are gone, should come out nice.

other than that I will snap pictures later today at AC the owner Mike his helping me build my own -2 inch pole. However I'm doing things just a little differently for my pole.

until the next time
-Mark

mark if you want you should just slab some carwax on the nose and then lay that up on top..then pop it off and shape it, then glue it down.it will be allot easier to make it look nice then putting it on the outside and sanding it perfect....at least for the top half

Ill keep that in mind yet due to the fact that I am rounding a month over schedule... i just need to throw tubbies on it paint the hood and throw it in the F*cking water before we somehow ship em to florida. Wammer might paint it so ill take my chances if i can ride sooner

sounds a little out thee but ever think about having 1 design on one side and another on the other side? theres no way it would look bad cause you have some great designs there but would never get old. lol

Hmm its an idea but I think i'll just go with the flow on this build. Thanks though.

Paint will actually be put off to get this thing in the water by next week. So there is a chance wammer may do it before or after daytona so I will take my chances on that to be out in the water thank you all for your help narrowing it down. its 1 or 3 well see down the road.

Talking with Mike at AC Racing we were going to cut base bulkhead out of the pole for the RRP dual breather tubes to fit. After teaching me how to tig weld on some of his scrap for 2 nights he asked me if I wanted to build my own the way I wanted it.

:woot:

It came out pretty good. I went for a straight -2inch pole. It came out good and a few downsides but for my first pole i think it came out pretty good.
his sheet metal bender made only 2 bends in the skin which gave it a trapezoid and bulky appearance.

So i decided to slap on a bunch of Body filler and shape it. I don't think I'm done quite yet but its where I want it for the most part now. I like the pole x10 better.

Other than that the ski is now back at performance fiberglass to have my tubbies glassed on, the bottom of the ski gel coated white, and the handlepole and hood painted black to match the ski... for now.

Projected ETA to the water: next week/weekend:party:

Update

Wow let me dust this thread off.

I have been Super busy between work and VERY slow progress on this ski it is actually very close to coming back together.

The hood and handlepole were painted. thats done:Banane09:

I also painted the carbon fiber nose piece Just the outside though pictures will come later.

Tubbies are glassed on, tomorrow I will grind down all the filler i applied before I left yesterday then spray on a fresh layer of Gel coat.

Almost there this weekend the ski will be in the water I can't wait to be back!

Sorry last two pictures were taken with Camera phone (bad quality)

Alright everyone the build has come some ways from where I left off.
seen here I tube sanded and blocked the bottom of the hull after I shaped the tubbies with the filler to be straight.

After that the hull was prepped and a new layer of white gel coat was sprayed on.

In these photos I Sprayed the Gel coat down with the PDA cover coat to activate and cure the gel coat.

It was very cold over night which was frustrating because when I arrived in the morning parts of the gel coat was still wet! I had brought (Krickon) Kevin to help me speed up the wet sanding process and get the ski out by mid day.
This plan turned into sitting around waiting for heat lamps to cure the hull after lunch.

Regardless with his help we got the hull sanded down the best and smoothest we could do 4 times.
1st time with 250 grit
2nd with 500
3rd time with 800 grit
then the 4th with 1000 grit before it and the top deck were buffed.

The ski made it out of the shop just in time before they closed.:Banane09:

I think it came out pretty decent under the stressful deadline driven and delayed progress.
