We have been more organized in the past (ie the swag) but have tended to go to a more relaxed style in more recent years. I suspect mostly through a lack of someone willing to spend the time to call all the companies and beg for stuff.

I suspect we need a few phone calls to make sure peeps can camp with and without RV's on the beach. Calls to see what availability there is for rentals (how many, range, how close to the beach, etc). Beach access like you mentioned and for what. Shawn usually has a jar he brings for the LSFR fund. Stacy made flags for signalling to riders and others. Meals can be organized or not and we sometimes vote or sometimes someone just says "Here's what we're doing, what can you bring?" and a list a made to cover the necessities.

I think that pretty much covers it. Take a look at the LSFR sticky thread. That has a lot of the info for CB and if we can cover all those same things for Surfside, we're good (bearing in mind that some of it is the same).

www.brri.com is the largest rental company in Surfside.

The Village of Surfside Beach requires beach parking permits. the cops also patrol regularly. Just on the eastern edge of Surfside Beach is an area called "Swan Lake." Stanek Road is the eastern most boundary of Surfside Beach - and the beach entrance to the "not as patrolled" county-controlled part of the beach where camping and etc. would be allowed.

T-shirts are easy to come by. I suspect if someone would ask Ronnie nicely (and tell him 'no girlies' from the get-go :poke: ) he would design a logo.

We've never really gone after "schwag" along the lines of raffle prizes. Paul Lehr brought some stuff one year and parrdaddy hit up Salt Away since he was sponsored by them. Ya'll can pursue that if you want.

The LSFR fund has about $150 in it after the last ride. I'll put that towards whatever ya'll want to use it for.

Surfside would be a good place for a ride. Gas and food are a bit further away than at CB (4 miles or so from Stanek Road). No grocery store that I recall, but there are convenience stores and a few small restaurants and a night club.

And no ferry to deal with.

Just plain me....
I say keep it simple. No raffle, no big meal. If someone wants to take the lead for donations for give aways, then more power to them. But trying to organize it into an "organized ride" takes all the fun out of its intended purpose. That's what has made the LSFR so unique - it's still about people just getting together, riding & having fun.

meal, shirts, schwag and all the shyt aside - if nobody steps up to take the lead - it will be me, you and Mick sitting on a beach somewhere by ourselves.
I understand that. That's why I said keep it simple. I think sometimes people don't want to take the lead because of all the stuff they think has to happen & be planned.

just ran mapquest.. looks like surfside is a little closer for people from the Hill Country / San Antonio area to get 2! How are the waves / sandbars - but I guess the last big storm has changed all that..

Hear, hear! My vote's for simple. I'd be happy to bring something for a group meal, if that's what peeps decide, but I'm perfectly happy with my little kitchen, my DO's and a campfire.

I just got off the phone with Brenda from the rental company that Penguin posted. Like he mentioned earlier, they expect to have most of their properties repaired by March. She said their website is not showing many of the properties, or show them unavailable, right now since they removed them due to damage. According to her most of the properties had exterior damage only. She also noted there are/will be plenty of properties in the area we would like to be in. And that they have several smaller properties, 2 and 3 bedroom.

It seems that Surfside would be a good location. It may take a little getting used too, and may not be as convenient as CB....but a great alternative. There are some pluses (not dealing with the ferry is a pretty big one!).

So, this brings us to the ultimate question. Is Surfside where we want the 2009 LSFR to be???

I am down for KISS mode. As always, I'm down for cooking at least one group meal. BF or Dinner seem to be the best. I like Surfside but Lake Jackson is the closet place to there for any dine outs or stores.
