XFT versus 24/7 SR hood

you mean he's not gay?

With 24/7 gone, the market really needs a high end carbon hood for the superjet......

what are your thoughts on the XFT X-7 hood? Haven't tried it in the water yet, but fit/finish looked pretty darn good to me. Curious what the "general" opinion is...

Ask freestylegeek, he had one then switched to an all carbon SR-71 by Chris Maros. He should be able to give a good opinion.

Here is his ski with the 2 different hoods.

Thanks for putting me on the spot!

The problem is, I'm not really comparing apples to apples. My XFT hood was a 13lb glass/divinycell hood, and my SR-71 hood is 6lb pure carbon. The XFT has the best hood seal design on the market (except the Kawasaki SXR seal). The hood breathes really well, and no water gets in - unless the ski is upside-down. Granted, any ski with a scupper will suck water through the hood in a hurry when upside-down.
The SR-71 hood is freakin' sweet. There is more clearance for your shins at the front of the tray for when you are riding staggard (instead of both feet in the footholds). There is also more clearance for the super short bars needed on a shortened hull.

The NEW XFT hood is a nice compromise between the two. Since Maros' 24-7 is gone, I'd STRONGLY recomend XFT. There's a ton of clearance for short bars, and I think it keeps a little more water out than the old X-7.

never saw a 24/7 personally so can't comment but have 2 xft's.
need to remove dashboard or air intake will hit it or cut intake.
both carbon hoods and 1lbs difference.
newer hoods have a rail around inner perimeter to prevent hood from sliding out as well as integrated gasket(nice idea)
build quality is just ok.some blemishes in the finish, kind of like most of blowsion's stuff.
air intakes are a bit fragile but overall nice hoods and strong enough.
looked at his site and can't tell if i have x4 or x7 hoods.both look the same?

never seen the XFT, but all i can say is the SR71 is AWESOME
ultra light, extremly strong, and what a sweet look to it
mine is 7 years old, and still looks brand new
so sweet looking... only regret was not getting the SR71 handpole.. that pole was awesome from what i saw....

Not in a position to compare but my XFT hood has amazing finish. Quite impressed with all the XFT stuff I got.

PLUS Sergio is a great guy to deal with and stands by his product!

curious..does the XFT pole have any foam in it???

I had a 24/7 glass pole....wish I never sold it

not the lightest, but Chuck Norris strong..same with the chinpad

the video with the truck driving over the hood is true..You could have driven over either the pole or pad and both would ahve been just fine

here it is with a ck hood, and with a Diablo hood as well

First SJ i had, had a fiber sr71 by maros.. thing bullet proof.
They are sexy hoods. My Carbon one now is awesome too.
Strong and light...

I really hope that stuff gets worked out with the molds and they
go to someone that cares. That hood would be a shame to loose.

I know the next hood i would get is Xscreams... close to sr71
but blunt ended at tray... good function wit that. :arms:

How about a pure carbon sr-71 pole built by chris maros himself? I cant decide to run it or sell it, its beautiful but i'd expect the lifetime warranty isn't going to be valid anymore
