Octanes RULE!!!!!

very fun in surf.tubbies did not help much as far as cornering goes, did help in the surf but it does fine as it is already very stable.nose feels very light when jumping and the wind gets a hold of it.landings are a little harsh but the boat survives fine.only broke the motor mounts once.
they're fine boats but not for racing.

I raced an Octane in '02. That boat is the main reason I took 3rd in Novice stock at the WF. As fast and stable as it was and as awesome as it hooked up, I could never get it to turn like I wanted on a race course. I would like to ride one with tubbies.
I never freerode that boat.....I would like to ride one in surf......It could be very fun!

mine has tubbies and I can turn that sucker right around on itself with no problems. not to say it may not be differnt on a race course at speed, but from a FR standpoint in the surf it turns just fine.

It was funny hearing the SJ guys that rode it comment on how much lighter they thought it was that their SJ's.:27::lmao:

I almost hated to tell them the truth. well not really. :sneaky:

In surf, turns are typically at slower speeds and usually you are riding the boat flatter. The Octane can turn and handle great at slow and med. speeds. It also REALLY likes to be turned flat(like a superjet but even more so). It was mainly on the race course where people had trouble with tight high speed turns.

I'm not a hater of the Octane. I kind of wish I still had mine around as a back up ski. For freeride I just still love my SJ.

Waves look pretty good this week. You game to hit some surf? I'd ask wolfy but looks like he defected to America's wang.

I always wanted to try an octane. Especially in surf now after reading this!:bananapowerslide:

hey Wolf. Remove the tubbies and tell me you like the way it turns. Also, check the rear bondline where it turns to the back, have these been modified, cut away? Octanes can be made to turn. But for stock class rules you cannot do all these mods.

All i will add to this (and I've said it before) is that the Octane is the most underestimated ski out there. I will agree that it doesnt handle great like an SXR or even an SJ, but for what many of us do (freestyle/freeide) that doesn't matter. Not to mention, there are a few simple mods that make the handling 100% better - and its not just tubbies. I can rock my Red Octane around the bouys, it just takes some getting used to.

The funny thing is that when you take the weight out of the hull, (i.e. my light weight wammer Octane) they handle even better and more like a SJ... its unbelievable. Superramjet said the same thing with his Octane, especially when he tried a 62t-based engine in it. Made it much lighter and the handling is very good.

Not to mention, the tray is so wide and comfy, makes my back feel better having a wider stance. And they are just so stable and buoyant... im spoiled by it

tubbies are glassed in, no way am I screwing with them. :kabong:

the rear lip at the bondline has been modded too. this ski has had all the work pre done. I dont need to do anything serious to it. just little tweaks for salt/surf.

I love it as is. for the most part, Im just gonna ride the damn thing. :naughty:

shhhh..... don't let my work know my true intentions. It may not be Florida, but i am definitely moving before i hit the quarter century mark (April 1st). If i knew a few more people in FL i may move there, if there are jobs. Things may change after daytona. ONE more winter....then i am out. But the waves are kickin up good this week (too bad my new rn hull isn't finished) for the first time a long time.

I can't wait to get down there and try out your OCTANE!!!:eek:uttahere:
