That is a great idea, very rewarding.
Spent 2 weeks cleaning up after Hurricane Charlie and never met better people than those who just lost everything.
Just don't bother with FEMA to tell you were to go, Red Cross was much better organised.

That would be a great idea, but there is nothing to clean up on the beach side of CB. We also don't know when they will be letting people back onto the penisula. We came in by boat & were quickly told to leave. Nothing is scarier than a high-strung deputy dog sheriff carrying a gun. I have always had respect for the law, but I was literally screamed at today by a short, fat, napoleon-like deputy. I don't think he expected me to call him out on yelling at me, because he walked away. His partner was very cool about things & treated us with a little bit more respect. We all understood that they had a job to do, but we also reminded them that they needed to have a little bit more patience & sympathy for people who had lost their homes.

ok, expand the idea........ There is somebody in that area that could use some help, especially elderly people who just have minimal damage, clean up, etc etc......... There are plenty of people that will need help, try and locate a neighborhood that is mainly older retired people..... Just show up and start cleaning up.

If an organised group with tools and supplies shows up at a Red Cross station at first light than I'm sure they will get an escort from the National Guard to areas in need.
The elderly will be hesitant at first (scared of scammers) so just start cleaning and they will soon realise that you are there to do good. From that point on you will be best friends.

Yep...I'm sure there will be plenty of opportunities to help. We just have to wait til we can get back to the penisula. Who knows how long that will be.

I dying to get to ride my sj in some surf. so all the people who planned on going to cb lets ride somewhere PLEASE.... :brap: And all the info I have gotten everybody down there is ok right??

I was planning to ride that weekend, and I intend to ride somewhere provided I can get everything else cleaned up before then.
There is nothing I can do at this point in Crystal Beach - so let's go and have a good time!
No overlooking the obvious intended, I have a brother, sister in law and nephew in Houston, my dad is in Houston and many cousins and friends in the area. I'm so happy everyone seems to be OK. Riding and getting together is what we do, if people can do this to put aside the long road to recovery, I am for it.
