really, i liked my sn too but after riding rn hulls and getting my own i wouldn`t go back. for surf riding maybe not much difference but for the hood tricks i can nail them on the rn hull 95% and on my sn only 50%. The RN hull flys different in the air for some reasons too. we have studied the two side by side and the differences are minimal and seem to be cosmetic but the ride is waaay different

I think something was wrong with your SN's hull or something... there isn't a large difference at all, and if anything I felt the SN felt a little better. The only other thing I can think of would be the fact that the stock square pole is heavy as hell and really makes the ski feel different.

RN pole is a great upgrade.

its not just the pole. the squares just handle different than that roundies. even if its a sn w/ a rn pole, the skis just handle different.

... not saying that one is 'better' than the other.....

we have 2 SJs that are set up almost identically. ones a sn and ones rn. to me, the rn likes to get airborne and has a tendency to slide, whereas the sn is more of a carver and stays hooked up better.

to me, theyre like 2 different quality guitars....... they evoke different riding/playing styles depending on their individual attributes.

Exactomondo!!! me and a buddy setup our skis as close together as possible. and yes guys i know all skis feel different. its the handling that is also different between the sn and the rn. the RN loves to be in the air and floats nose high. Also the RN have way better hoods available which is a good thing. Just ride the SN and mod it out until a good deal, close by, on a RN falls in your lap, then snag it up. eveything you learn and mod on the SN is just that much cooler on the RN.:laugh2:

to further that comment i rode a pal's lightweight lenzi hull and it was full of gas and had a longish rideplate and it did not jump at all because the nose would not raise up, kind of like trying to jump a kawi. oh did i say that outloud?

your right trying to catch air with the nose down is the way its done.

Oh good lord. So what are you saying, the a sn just pushes through the wave? LOL. I'd rather be able to easily control the nose height with my body rather than it just shoot up if that is what you are claiming. Jumping doesn't feel any different to me. We are putting way too much into this.

And it's "You're" by the way :naughty:

Aren't the bottoms identical? I have only been on 2 SJ's; my modest SN with the 62t 701and a RN with a factory pipe and shortened pole. Other than the obvious brap factor I noted two real differences:
1) It seemed to me that the RN didn't want to bury the nose on a hard turn like the square. Maybe the absence of "corners" to bury in when you lean in to a turn?
2) The nose did seem lighter to me on the RN, even though it was intentionally WEIGHTED by the owner. I really don't think it was just a power difference. Maybe the RN pole positions you differently? It would be really interesting to take some measurements of the pivot point on both relative to the nose and tail.

+or better yet, set 'em both down across a 2 x 4 and see if the center of gravity is different. . . .

Its fo sho different, little wierd feeling bein the only square out there competing in my region:veryhappy:
Don't fall into the peer pressure of thinking you have to get a RN. Be unique & dominate reg 7 on a square. You're quickly developing your skills & you've got all the passion that it takes. I can't wait to see how much you've progressed when I see you at Nats. Kick ass, Jared:arms:
