Who rides with no front foot strap?

Just wondering if any one who rides alot of surf prefers no front foot strap or hold?

I have been riding probably 80% surf stance lately, I don't have a front strap and my back foot (toes) sit in the foothold. I really havnt had a problem loosing my footing when slashing/hitting the wave hard (on waist to chest surf). Even on re-entries I am able to keep my feet planted well. Sometimes I move or replant my front and or rear foot on purpose, and I think that may actually help me in some situations.

Anyone else feel this way?

you can do that with straps too..once you get used to them you can move in and out of them very easily to recover from moves that dont go according to plan...i rarely keep both feet in the straps throughout the whole move especially on landing reenties unless i hit them perfect

with reentries they help allot when you try to style it out..you can really tweak out the ski when your attached to it....you dont even really have to hold on to the bars very tight which also helps with your arms getting tired

.also when you go up and do a floater over a hollow section you can just give it gas and air drop down the face instead of riding down it which for most people ends up with the nose in the sand...

also with straps i hardly ever "fall" because you stay stuck to the ski..when i bobble i just clamp the throttle, keep my feet planted and can power out of most situations

there is a reason almost every good wave rider runs at least a front strap and in my opinion i think those that dont run a rear too are just putting themselves at a disadvantage

also one more thing is allot of guys put their straps in facing forward (like you are standing in the footwell, not sideways to the ski) and i think that also puts you at a disadvantage..when you do a turn on the open face of the wave being perpendicular to the ski gives you leverage to stop the slide and bring the ski back under you...you have way more control of your leg front to back rather than side to side if that makes sense

it feels weird at first but you get used to it

I dont think not having tubbies is hurting me too bad with how light the nose of my ski is, but Im sure they will still help. Coming up with cash to put towards the ski has been tuff lately, ever since Ive been back from my little riding adventure to CA. lol

you don't NEED tubbies.... they just help.
I think we probably put to much importance in them. A good surfrider can rip w/o them

I have no strap up front, but have both in back instead. If I slash, I keep one foot forward, but it doesn't bother me not to be strapped in. If I am stabbing or jumping, I have both in back.

i HAVE to ride with two straps and no tubbs.
keeping the nose up just takes practice and finding the right timing and teq. ie; if you are sliding sideways you can go right into a curling wave without the ski getting caught and shooting the nose under.
all tubbies do for my style is make backside slashes more predictable and increase impacts.
if i ride with just a back strap my front foot is in the air alot, front strap only i lose the leverage.

Andrew. after tubbies and straps I agree with you more by the day !
I do however still like to use my holds for barrel roll variations !

Setup attached... I wouldnt trade my front hold and rear strap for the world.. Its tits.
I hit stuff ten times faster and harder..

I think something snapped when you Ripped past me in daytona like i was standing still. :veryhappy:

what you doing this weekend???
we are hitting up the break friday.
I know it's pretty small, but it's a party at the least.

Damn, now Im not sure what to do. Munkie and his lady are coming up, and we had a invite to Lake Diddy. Had you talked to Parr? Thats like right in between, but if there is thigh high surf, Id rather party at the beach! :Banane01:

I prefer no front foot strap (or rear strap, or foot holds......etc)

WORD!

When the waves give me a chance for more re-entries im gona realy pay attention to what me feet are doing, and decide from there.

Anyone else feel free to though out there 2 cent.... There hasnt been any surf tech threads in a while.

Word up on petes setup, that back strap placement looks perfect,Im riding a highroller front foothold as well, but right now my back strap is placed to far forward so I dont get much use out of it,I cant seem to ride with my front foot totally sideways,it feels weird and puts a strain on my hips,Im seem to do best at a slight angle.

Be really carefull on the angle you install your front strap. and the back strap seems to work best the closer you can get your heel to the end of the ski without blocking off your footholds
