stab question - running out of air?

when I do a stab I sometimes go pretty far under and keep on the gas to bring myself under and back forward and then come out of the water nicely to set myself up to just keep riding... but once in a great while it seems like my ski just bogs down afterwards for a few seconds.... one time it was bogged for like maybe 10-15 seconds... anyone else ever experience this? figured I am running out of air or maybe just a little water ingestion...

same thing happens to me when i go under pretty good. I do have covers on my flame arrestors, but i "think" its a little water ingestion. Hopefully someone can give a correct answer.

mine was doing that when i was ingesting a little water and my spark was less then perfect. after i went through the ebox again it stopped. i have also ran out of air under water and it just stops on me, doesnt bog

i also experience every once in awile this using prok's with outwears
but it doesent occur with subs... i just think the impact rattles the fuel in the carb dumping it and not leaving any primed fule ready loaded when you come back up to ride away.

Your carbs are either drinking some water or your spinning coupler is turning the water into mist and your drinking that.

I have to ride in tight slow left circles to scup it out. You'll feel the coupler dry out.

there are a few things to consider:

1 - you could be running out of air. This does happen if you are under too long

2 - you could be ingesting water. I recently went back to OEM style air box and this made a huge difference.

3 - your carbs may not be jetted right. After building my new ski i found I was having this problem with every nose stab. Turns out I had my carbs jetted more for a race ski, with a very low pop-off. I changed my jetting specs, and increased my pop-off (a lot) and this fixed the problem.

4 - Mikuni OEM carbs tend to have this problem. not so much with 38mm carbs, but with their larger carbs.

Anyway, you're not alone... but you can eliminate one thing at a time and be able to isolate the problem... and correct it.

i'm still learning the stab...while you guys are on the subject... when i go under and decide it's time to come back up...i just let the gas go for a sec, pull back as much as i can on the bar and then gas again...right? or no ?

once i get totally underwater i let off the gas until the ski starts heading back up... then i get back on it to ride out... most of the time.

Stock airbox is the bomb, with the WDK tubes in, it almost never sucks water. I have been landing them inverted slightly, hard to ride them out.

very helpful. sounds like i need to increase my pop off. I have an annoying low-end sputter right now.

i had to make some pretty extreme carb spec changes but boy did it make a difference.

started off with a 140 main jet, 120 pilot jet, 2.5 n/s with a 65 gram spring - very low pop off

I now run a 122.5 main jet, 120 pilot jet, 2.0 n/s with a 95 gram spring. much better now.
