Making my own alloy pole

Hi im looking at making my own alloy pole for my sx650, ive been looking round and it seams i cant get one in the uk, so needs must and i have all the tools and alloy at my finger tips , i thought why not have ago at making my own, i can CAD and Lasers cut most shapes, so im thinking take my pole off make some temps and have a go, my main questions being what thickness of alloy should i use. i was going along the lines of 6mm / 8mm / 10mm for the hinge fittings and base the construct the pole from fully welded 2mm thick, and a 2mm think alloy tube down the centre for the cables.
Has anyone done this and any advice would be great. i will be making it to fit the standard sx steering mounts.

Don't put too much effort into it, it's still going to be a 650sx in the end. I would go for the 10mm at the pivot if you're using an aluminum alloy.

I think its well worth the effort , the standard pole has a little play, so might as well upgrade if i have to change it, and all my riding is done in the surf so the stronger the better, plus it will add to the look of the ski to

well thank you for that , this is why i think its worth a bit of effort to make the pole, plus my working life will make metal and welding and laser cutting very easy,

those older kawi poles are so ugly too... the BUN pole looks sick!

Ya Zoom, beautiful 650SX!
Your right those stock poles are dangerous as they break easily when the pivot bolt holes gets rounded out. Also they start cracking along the seam on the sides too.
Good luck making your own pole, many have done it. Post up some pics of the process!

i went to a modified 300sx pole assembly and it's aluminimum and mounted 3" forward for a total of neg 4.5" w/ the bars and turn plate
