an auto clutch is just what it implies.

think of the clutchless centrifigul clutch on a little kids bike (ttr50-90, crf50-70, klx110...) same general idea on a full sized bike. you stil have a clutch, but it's just an override now. you dont need the clutch for any other reason than if you just feel the need to use it. not even to start and stop. properly adjusted, it makes stalling pretty much a thing of the past.

you'll love it, but they are pricey.. like to the tune of 600 bones for the basic rekluse kit. Over 1200 if you go with the rev-lok which is the top of the line.

tell you what.. you are more that welcome to ride my bike when I get there. it's all set up with all the goodies.

smokers start easy, especially warm. you cal look at 'em funny and they start when they are warm.

the biggest thing I cannot stress enough. use GOOD 2t oil and and make sure your jetting is perfect. do that and you'll get alot of life out of your motor and maintenece costs will be low. dont do it and you'll pay.. literally

KTM smokers are one of the easiest bikes on the planet to maintain. they have a very simplistic design and can be almost completly torn down with the supplied tool kit. be sure to ask the owner for the satchel with the manuals (parts and service) and the tool kit. The manuals are top shelf and quite extensive, it'll cover everything right down to jetting specs. all KTMs come with this when they are purchaced new so there is no reson for him not to have them. if for some reason he doesnt, get them off of ebay or order them from a dealer.

Dude.. I can't thank you enough for the advice... I'm so stoked... the wife is gonna freak out!!!! (not really) but it will cause stress to her...

I'm working them down on the price now... I just found out my buddy races rc cars w/ the owner and he offered the bike to him for $3200...

Unless the bike is trashed I dont foresee anything being a deal breaker. but you need to know what may need some attention soon and it'll give you more leverage for dealing.

Nice bike. You can swap the cylinder and piston from a 300EXC if it's not fast enough for you. :naughty: You can change the spring in the power valve in about 5 seconds to tune for low, mid, or top end.

why is everyone assunming He's going to be riding on an MX track?

he already said that he wants it as a commuter and possible dual sport machine. ie. light trail riding. I believe he will be just fine.

The other day in the garage I must have been bent over rummaging through boxes too long and my back hurt in a weird way it never has before. It was like a piercing pain. But the other day I hurt my back carrying my new engine up some stairs. Then the next day I was chucking defect air plane windows into the trash hopper and it hurt a little more. But after the garage incident, first thing I thought was oh crap, I hope I don't screw up my back where I can't ride like Nick...

I say get the bike is you just plan on riding to work. If you hit any trails... well you may be opening yourself up to more back pain. I miss my old YZ250 every time I see a dirt bike in a truck or drive by a MX track.

Also how can you get a two smoker streeet legal? I never thought you could get them street legal since the old days. I want a WR450 and make it street legal for just what Nick wants to do. Ride to work and a few trails. Especially with gas costs!

You're right, I did make an assumption. it's just that Nick seems the type to be an off-road kinda guy. He always went for the gusto on the ski, seems like the street might be too tame for him. Of course, depending on traffic on his commute, the street might be plenty of gusto!

it all has to do with title wording and the state you live in.

In FL the title wording is the key, since you cannot convert a bike in that state. Here in My you can get a tag for nearly anything fo almost no money, ande once the tag is in hand you cant take almost all the DOT crap back off and nobody would say a word about it.

so there are several factors to consider depending on your location.

I have the exact bike Nick's looking at and mine has a tag as well.
