heated wetsuit - worth it?

I've never been in a drysuit, so I'm not sure if this would even be worth it. When I saw the segment on fuelTV the other day, they said there would be a 600-700 price point on this, but since it was still in development, it was still up for grabs. They said one of the issues right now is the electronics attracting sharks, so they're testing that out to make sure there are no issues. But even for lake riding, would seem like a good investment. In the clips on TV, there was a guy walking waist deep in snow with his surf board to get to the beach. Also said he was in the suit for two hours and that it felt like summer. Oh and I can't remember if they show in the video or not, but the batteries are pretty thin and would be located in the small or your back. There is also a switch for off, warm and hot.

So what do ya think, cool idea?

I posted this on the other site, but figured since not everyone reads over there, would post this here as well.

Why is it a waste of money? Not everyone lives in Texas. Current water temperature here is 43F.

I think it's awesome.

shell/tri-lam type drysuits are cheap in comparison. If you're still chilly, there are thermal undies that could be added to make the suit warmer

if you lived where the water was as chilly as it is in the Arctic Circle year-round - sure, definately go for it. Otherwise, I think it would be a "luxury" item that if you had everything else and just have to have the latest & greatest it's for you.

don't get me wrong, I think it's a great idea. I've been on a few dives in 50º water where I would give my left nut (if I could find it) to have a suit like that.

how long does the water stay that temp where you are?

I'd pay five hundo for one if a couple of my buddies would too. Then we could ride till December for sure. Does anyone know a price for sure?

You gotta pull your cable out of the casing and grease it, we do it all the time when we drive our quads in winter.

The heated wet suit looks f*ckin awesome. I love my drysuit, but I hate riding hard and sweating in it!

I've been shocked a few times from shorted bilge switches on the handlebars and would imagine a heated wetsuit would be even worse.

Water usually stays that cold from end of november/begining of december until sometime in may it warms up all the sudden. You got to remember something else, the water is 43 right but the air is about 35. You'll freeze once you come out of the water if your not already freezing in it. The only thing that wearing stuff under a wetsuit will do is constrict you more and be more stuff to get cold once your out of the water. Believe more layers don't keep you warmer in the water. Even if you doubled up on wetsuits you wouldn;t be able to move...if you wanted to compare it to something it would be like trying to ride holding two volleyballs under your arms and one between your legs haha. I never tryed a drysuit, but personally I get very uncomfortable and fidgety when i layer up i can't stand it.

The interesting thing is that sometimes the water is at the warmest here in October because of Gulfstream, but the air temps can kill you.
People go diving in Jamaica Bay (that's in NY for penguins :bad3: ) to see sea horses in october.
