Jetinetics flywheel + MSD Enhancer?

Do you mean tighten it every couple of rides or just after the initial couple rides?

Just out of curiosity, how you do you melt a top end with too rich jetting?

too much fuel, not enough oil? on a premix engine it shouldnt matter, right?

If your timing light flashes when your TDC mark lines up with the 0 deg. mark on the flywheel at idle, then Yes your static timing will then truly be at zero.

However, I'm not sure this is what you want. The "zero" that some others are referring to is the little arrow on the cases lining up with the line on the stator. (which is the factory setting for the stator w/ stock flywheel). But this is not necessarily 0 deg. static timing. Yam has some static advance from the factory at idle, I'm sure.

TDC is when the piston is at it's highest stroke, and the crank is centered between the begining and ending rotational positions to achieve that position. TDC is located by using a height gauge in the spark plug hole, by rotating the crank around until you locate the point where the piston is highest. If you are using a flywheel with degree markings, you will then want to make a mark somewhere on the cases inline with 0 on the flywheel. That's your TDC mark, from there with a timing light you can check your acutal timing, which is adjusted by rotating the stator plate. To advance your timing, you will want to rotate the stator CCW when looking directly at it......or toward the rear of the ski. Your stator placement will need to be calculated from distances measured between the marks on the cases and stator, which may not mean anything until you do an initial test with a timing light to see what advancement the factory markings may have added in.

Don't take this as gospel until someone else confirms, I am typing this while at work so I can't look at anything to make sure I'm not smoking crack :chairfall:

Here is a copy of my email to jetinetics tech support:

I am planning on using your yamaha 61x flywheel with a MSD Enhancer CDI ignition on my 62T yamaha superjet engine. I am also planning on using a refurbished 61x stator from Jetskisolutions with this setup. I have read old posts on pwctoday.com and x-h2o.com about how your flywheel and the refurbished stator can both change the timing because of stronger magnets in your flywheel and larger wires on the stator.

Do you have any recommendations on how to best set the timing with this setup? I have searched the web for info on setting the timing on a 2 stroke engine to no avail. Any how-to information you could give me, or other resources for this information you know of, would be greatly appreciated. I know that rotating the stator will change the timing and what TDC is. I don't know which cylinder to look at for TDC or if there are any timing marks on my engine that I should use.

Here is a thread that shines a little light on the enhancer timing curve:

You can see from the Graph and SUPERTUNE's post that the enhancer and OEM cdi have about 17 deg. advance at approx. 500 RPM and the enhancer should have about 22 deg. advance at 1700-1800 RPM.

You can shoot for these numbers with your timing light, I think it would be a good starting point. That is what I did when i set mine up.

I haven't heard back from Jetinetics yet but I have figured out what I need:

Step by step instructions. Something like:

step1-place the engine in TDC for _ cylinder

step2-mark flywheel where....

step3-.......

.....step whatever-crank the engine and ride.

I would be willing to pay for this. I'm a pretty smart guy who has figured everything else out about my motor and ski. Heck, I put people out for surgery for a living. I know I can easily learn this but I can't find the information. :dunno: I'd be thrilled with "Hey man, read this book or go to this website" or anything.

Robert returned my email to say that he was busy today but would get back to me next week. I'll keep you posted when I hear from him.

I figure that if this is too complicated I'll just take Idok's advice and set the stator at the factory setting and not send it to JSS. That way I won't have to worry about it not being timed right.
