need help with round nose pole on square nose

Let me first start off saying i searched and didnt find anything what i wanted to do :-(

This is my delema. I broke my SN pole, so i got a RN bracket and pole. when i mounted the bracket i just redrilled the holes and stuck the bracket on. It looked good. but when i put on the pole. it seemed very low. It won't go its maximum height. and i figured out why. the bracket is on an angel. so i did this. to make it level. VERY GHETTO.

just added some plastic to the bottom to make the bracket level. now im not that good in grinding or Welding.

yamanube seen what i did and he mentoned that what i did creates pressure points on the hull, and can make the hull crack ALOT easier.

so he put out this simple, generan drawing for me.

his drawing tells me to gring down some of the bracket to make it on an angel with the hull.

and i have neard that some people used glass to make it level on the hull itself. like the RN bracket area.

What would be the easiest way to do this??

PLease help a fellow rider out.

Thanks Guys!

the easiest way would to get the aftermarket handle pole bracket. pete made some before and other manufaturers make them.

i would think if you ground off the bottom it could make it easy to break. i was told that when i was thinking of putting an fx1 handle pole on my square. if you have a couple hundred you can get one. some one has one for sale i would imagine. i have seen them for 150 before.

you could also take your drawing and bracket to a welder and have one made for a decent price.

good luck.

I think people grind away at the stops on the pole and bracket to make it pivot all the way up.
If you want a used square to round pole bracket, PM cookerq62. I just bought a square hull from him and did not want the custom bracket.

That is pretty ghetto!

the eaisest and best way is to rebuild the mount area with glass. The entire bracket mounting area is very weak on the squarenoses. If you rebuild that area you can level it out that way. Even ifyou cut the bracket the way you have it drawn there, it will bolt up nice and the pole will extend higher, but the entire mount area will move around like crazy with the pole on there. I have an xmetal pole on my square with an xmetal bracket and I did nothing to modify it to go on. I can deal with it not extending up as far as it should. But the mount area is soooo weak im just waiting till it rips out.

just remove the rubber pad thingy on the bracket, that will get the pole up high for you.

you need to cut a plate of aluminum to go underneath as a backing plate too, or that will rip out of the hull.

Yeah. I did use the round bracket with a round pole. Posted some pics here.

I liked the square bracket with some washers better though. Just have to grind a little off the end of the pole, and a little off the bracket. That way you don't have to redrill any holes, and the square bracket sits lower than the round bracket.

It's a good idea to reinforce under there while you have everything out too.

yeah i think ill try and do that.

I think someone mounted their RN pole using the SN mount and some washers to center it.

Aaron

i already tried that, and it didnt go that high up either :-(

I did the same exact thing. You don't need those little rubber pad thingys if you use a limiting rope anyways.

I also used a backing plate and re enforced the bracket area on the outside of the ski.

I put 6 layers of cloth under there then filled in the voids on the side with thickened epoxy. Squares are really weak under there. X2 rags might be able to post some pics of it.

If you grind the end of the pole it will go up higher if you're using the square bracket. Doesn't take much.

and should i 404 the top of the pole area? to make it level?

and... won't grinding down the pole mess up the support of the pole?? because i was thinking about doing that before and i just thought it would mess around with the support of the pole.

Call Pat at X-Scream and he will hook you up with the bracket you need to make this work. He will make your life a lot easier.

right now i really dont have the money to buy a $125 or more bracket.

I didn't do anything to the top of the pole area when I used the square or round bracket. You don't have to grind much off the pole to get it to go up high enough. Maybe a quarter inch. You can grind off some of the useless casting on the square bracket too. It's not hard at all. Took me about 10 minutes with an angle grinder to get it to fit.

well, i just 404'd my handlepole are on the top to get it level, then put a piece of glass over it. when i get back from florida on the 20th im going to fill in underneath the ski and put some more layers of glass underneath the handlepole are too.
