Starter bendix question,

Always just this close
Hey all,
My starter bendix stick on me last week, I opened up the flywheel cover and wd-40'd the bendix and worked it loose (very easy) and now it works fine, What would cause it to stick? Hey to be out on t he water and have it not start

water intrusion......

make sure the compartment is clean and dry with a fresh gasket.......

once it sticks they tend to do it often....

make sure to check the little spring in it...if there is ANY rust on it its going to come apart and will likely shred your flywheel and stator as well....

I have taken them apart before and rebuilt them. There are many, many crazy and small parts inside a bendix that make them work. I should do a write up ione day on rebuilding them.

I rebuilt one that was rusted pretty bad one time and it lasted about a month. It is not worth the hassle to try to make one work when you can get NEW ones on ebay for around $50 shipped if your careful.

I bought a Goki and a Goki starter once... both JUNK!

It all depends on how bad they are. Sometimes they can be real bad and not worth it. Othertimes they rust up and won't move. A dissassemble and cleaning will do the trick. Then again you better do it right because if not... say good bye to your stater :(
