foothold install update / questions!!

best to do small amounts.......... several small pours.

I had the volcano trick happen, I painted the ski before I refoamed the foothold (did a minor refoam, had a loose foothold, removed and reinstalled). really sucked trying to get it off without messing up the new paint.

ya, I was lucky it just rubbed off, with a little acetone.. but the side where the foot holds and where I sanded.. most of that came off, but I'll have to sand some more because of it. next time I'll do a little at a time for sure!! I"m glad I haven't repainted... waiting till I get lowered hood.

I hope these foothold stay glued in forever.. I don't want to do this task again! They feel like there pretty solid, especually now that all that foam is behind them! I just hope the stay in there good.

quick question, Does it matter how big the pieces of glass are?? I figured when I do between the 2 foot holds, in the tray, just to use 2 big pieces? will that work?? Or do I have to use small pieces like around the foot holds... IS it a necessity to do the area between the holds in the tray?

I lay down strips around the foot holds about 2-3” wide strips and I have never done the entire area between the holds unless it was cut open to refoam.

ok thanks.... People said to do it to reinforce.. at this point it just seems like extra work.

you can use small strips or precut one large peice and wet it out with a brush. either way it will keep your tray from sagging over time.

ok, so I can do one large sheet then. you think one sheet is enough or do two?

both of my squarenoses broke or cracked in the rear center of the tray area, right between where footholds would go.

put at least a layer or two of glass across the back of the tray, its cheap ( and light) insurance

ya, it just sucks because the resin has a pot life of like 15 min or something I think. so you gotta work quick.

for a big job use several small batches of resin ( ie. mix only 15 mins worth at a time ). You still need to work pretty fast to get each layer down before the last one sets.

once you have epoxy mixed and gloved on, its a 2 o 4 minute deal.

i was jsut shooting a number comparing to dealing with the hassles later if it cracked.. might as well do it now..

ok so I got a layer of glass down.. the fiberglass mat I used is pretty dang thick here are the specs on it.
DBM 1208 Knytex Biaxial
+/- 45degree
Contains double bias(12oz) stitched at 45degrees
along with one layer of 3/4oz mat.
Thickness: 0.037"

Anyways I hope I did it ok, I couldn't manage to get all the pocks of air out at certain areas.. like the edges.. and a concave shape on the edge of the hold.. I'm hoping I did ok.. Should I go back and do another layer.. It will be pretty thick I would think. I also put a layer over the hole where I foamed. I put the piece I hole sawed out, but there was alot of gap, so I poured some resin in and then layed a layer over the hole. that ok? here are my pictures
