First off, I've been gone a while. Broken bones, lost my job, yadda yadda...

At any rate, I'm ready to try and get the ski wet and have an issue I need to sort out and really need someones help answering a couple questions.

I cant seem to keep a battery charged in the ski and worse still the starter barely has enough OOMPH to turn the motor over. Batterys are good and hot, so I know that cant be it. I took the elctrical system apart and tested and cleaned everything. But, before I put it all back together I have 2 quick questions.

  1. What do the Black/Red stripe wire and Orange/White stripe wires go to in a 84 JS 550 CDI box? (they weren't hooked to anything) Orange is hot on the bench Black does nothing, not even ground. (this is with the box on the bench hooked up to a battery)
  2. Could my starter be weak and that be the cause of poor starting and excesive load?
Sorry to put this in General, But I wanted people to see it so I can get this sucker fixed.

could be a weak starter, could be corroded starter cables.

could be a locked up engine?

can you turn the engine by hand ( via the coupler) with the spark plugs removed?

thats the great part of testing straight to the starter, you dont need ANYTHING thing else hooked up..

except maybe a KILL switch, or fuel shut off.

you can even jump it from your car starter, or your lawn mower battery, or a 4wheeler battery, or a motorcycle battery, a boat battery ( I think you get my point)

ok.. I'll have to do that when I get all the electrical stuff back in it.

the starter is also sitting on the bench.

W/o plugs in, the starter will crank like mad. put the plugs in it though, and if it dont start in the first couple revolutions, you better have a spare battery standing by.
