I may dislike couches, but I hate bad drivers.

I finally got my 650 SX running.

Today, we get to the lake and I go for a 20 min ride. I come back in and a friend takes my ski out, so I climb onto my other friend's 3-seater.

We go for a ride and then move onto a friendly game of throw the passanger off.

So I stood on the back of the jet ski, leaned off the back while holding onto the handle on the back. This is a good rush and a lot of fun, as long as the driver takes a second to think of the possible reprocussions of his actions and drives accordingly.

My friend is doing a good 20+ MPH, when he cuts to the left to throw me off, or so it would seem. Well, I come off the ski at what would normally be a safe manuver. I am going slower than the ski, being thrown to the outside of the turn. Should be a big splash and a lot of fun, but the driver isn't so wise.

He cut to the left with his only intention to get the back end loose so he could swing it going the other way. Problem is... he cut so hard to the left I couldn't hang on, and as he turned to the right, the ski came to an almost immediate stop.

So what was me being thrown slower than the jet ski to the outside of the turn as it turned left, turned into me being thrown much much faster than the jet ski to the inside of the turn as it went right. (Basically, he threw me, and then did a U-turn, so as I was thrown from the jet ski, into the jet ski.)

I ended up casing the hell out of the side of the jet ski with my ribs. I heard poping as I hit it, and couldn't breath. He had to help me get back onto the ski after I floated a while to get my bearings.

I didn't break anything. The vest I was wearing distributed the impact, thank god. It's very painful, all the muscles on my left side hurt, including my back, and creaping into the right side of my back. I couldn't lift much of anything. I did my best to stretch and ice the muscles to keep them from spasiming. I am absolutly dreading going to sleep, because I know how bad it is going to be in the morning.

I never quite understood how people could get injured so bad on jet skis. I have my answer. People just don't think. I would have never done a manuver that aggressive with someone riding on the back, much less, hanging off the end. Just stupid. Could you imagine if I had ate the side of it with my face? No more teeth, that'd be for sure.

What sucks, is that i couldn't do much with my stand up after that. I did get up on the new wakeskate, I'm a trooper, but it hurt too much to do anything more than take it for a ride like a wakeboard with no boots. It totally shot my day.

No pictures. The vest distributed the impact so there is no brusing, on the outside anyway. Ouchies.

There's nothing I hate more than a situation where someone isn't thinking about what they are doing, and a different person gets hurt as a result.

In that situation, there were two people who weren't thinking about what they were doing.

Sorry about your ribs.

How do you figure? My cousin almost broke his tailbone when he fell off a jet ski one, while he was sitting in the designed position holding onto the designed grip, becase as he fell, he hit the back of the jet ski. I was standing on the back so I'd be clear of the ski in a fall. Had he continured through the turn, I would have fallen clear of the ski.

Saying two people weren't thinking is like saying... It's the tubers fault that the driver swung the tube into a dock.

Riding a tube is safe, as long as the driver remembers he's pulling a tube. Standing on the back of the jet ski is safe, as long as the driver drives like someone is on the back of the jet ski.

Moral of the story, if your driving a ski and a person is a passenger (sitting, standing, or however they may be there), you should drive so that in the case of a fall, they will fall clear of the ski.

I think its the fact that you are trying to throw each other off the ski. Thats like trying to send a tube onto shore.

If you couldn't breath after the initial recovery (winded) than your rib is cracked. Have it looked at. Ribs hurt.

hey y'all, check out this stoopid couch trick:haha:

they dont do anything for cracked ribs other than x-ray them, say, "yup they're cracked" and give you a huge bill.
if one punctured a lung or spleen, you would know it by now
dont waste your time and $$$ getting an x-ray

It's not broken. And yes, they do not do anything for a broken rib. The poping was cartilidge. It's all good, just some muscle pain.

I suppose it's hard to explain, but throwing someone off a jet ski in the manner I had designed is not inharently dangerous. My concept of the activity would always result in the passenger falling clear and safe. I agree it's not the wisest thing to do, but most sports on the water aren't that safe.

All I am saying is that in my calculation of safety, I took all into consideration except the other person. A lesson learned I must say.

The point I was making is that couches are fatalities waiting for a place to happen. By messing around and trying to be flung off of it, you guys were simple upping the ante.

Glad you're OK.

Thanks for giving more ammunition to people who are trying to ban PWCs.:banghead:

Throwing a person off a jet ski in this manner is not inherently dangerous....?!? (still feel that way?)

Good Grief....couchers :rocketwhore:

Ya, I still feel it's not that dangerous. I'd do it again with a better driver.

Everything in the realm is dangerous. You could tell me not to ride my quad, i might get hurt, and hang up that wakeboard, it's caused too much pain.

The only way to not get hurt is to not do anything. They aren't going to pass a ban on PWCs.

Funny, they've already passed some bans on PWCs in certain areas. Your riding spot may be next.

The more times people witness folks on PWCs riding irresponsibly, and the more people that end up in the emergency room because of it, the more fuel that is added to the anti-PWC fire.

And wishfull thinking that you won't get hurt or that they won't pass more bans, is just that, wishfull thinking.

You can stick to your quad, 'cause if you mess up on that it doesn't put people up in arms about anything that'll effect my hobby/sport. :sneaky:

you must be pretty young cause you can't seem to get your mind around what you think is something safe and fun to do, while its actually not.

If I told you its safe for me to jump off a 3 story building because the manner in which I perform it is safe and responsible and fun would you buy that.

Dude bottom line is there are any number of possible things that can go wrong even if the driver was going in a straight line and you jumped- loss of footing upon trying to leave ski = fall wrong get hurt, wrong trajectory in the air landing wrong = hard fall and get hurt, and on and on.

its the things that you never consider that will get you hurt-" it wasn't supposed to happen like that" yeah no shiet that is why you are hurt. you are basically intentionally trying to be ejected from a moving ski for fun and we are saying - ouch - don't.

glad you are okay- sorry to be shaking my finger but I would have rather had a bad skiing on the 650 than try the stuff you are doing. your loss.

I'm 22.

I can't believe you just used the old "If johnney told you to jump off a bridge, would you do that too?" arguement. lol.

i agree it's dangerous. i agree it's unwise. I agree the 650 is a lot more fun.

I am sure there are some PWC bans due to saftey, but, although I may be wrong, I thought most PWCs were banned because of their high fuel emissions. I've read things about PWCs being banned and it's always been environmental activists argueing that they have high emissions and just tacking danger on as a supporting arguement. I only saw bans at national parks, where the environment gets the most attention. I didn't think/know they were banning them at all for being dangerous. I wonder how those bans will hold up as 4-strokers become more popluar.

Anyway, I wasn't looking for an arguement or sympathy. I was just telling a story that i found to be interesting. We agree on some things and disagree on others. Fortunatly, I'm still young enough to take a beating and I am just fine. I'll get to live to fight another day and battle it out with my 650 this week. I'm going to bow out of the discussion before I anger someone. I kind of have the feeling a person or two got adgitated by my antics.

I don't think we got agitated, I'm pretty sure we're all glad you're OK.

But, collectively, we want you to stop riding PWC in a reckless and dangerous fashion. I don't feel anyone's mad because no one has insulted you yet. :)

as always clear, concise and to the point.

it seemed to me you wanted us to all go - " yeah your cousin is an idiot for turning!"

I think he may be a little slow for agreeing to drive you on this mission.
