no reason for a shortened hull or even a lightweight one in the surf imo..a heavier hull stays planted and turns better up to a point my sj is not much lighter than a sxr (extremely waterlogged) and thats why i like it so much..

I'm under the impression from reviews of members here, and speaking to WDK (on his product only), that all if not MOST AM hulls ride nose high.

Not sure if its your ideal surf setup, but for lake riding and freestyle a nose high ski makes sense.

I don't think a BF hull would be the best in the surf, but I've never rode a shortened hull.

nothing wrong w/ a lighter hull in the surf... Especially if you are my size...

I weigh 40lbs more than the average guy....

It can be too light though, but just add weight... I want a very light strong hull that I can add weight where I want to...

i weigh about 210 and im alot shorter than you...i see the benifits of having the weight where you want it but i dont think you need a light hull for the surf..you dont need less weight to get more air or rotate like you do on flatwater..i can manhandle my waterlogged roach no problem and my ski is more planted than any ive ever ridden..BUT ive never ridden a light weight am hull let alone in the surf so dont listen to me...my point is that the best "surfriding" thats been done or is being done is on a reinforced oem ski...save your money

It's all preference.... I'm not looking for super light weight, although there is nothing wrong w/ that.... I'm looking to put weight in a different spot... I want to lower the CG of the boat, make it more predictable and handle better... Don't think of it as "light weight" think of it as "differed weight"...

really though:
I would guarentee if you put taylor on a light weight boat he would figure it out and be ripping just as hard or harder than he does now... and going higher...

Exactly..... once you go light, there is no turning back...... Im at about 265lbs and I wish it was 200lbs..... So much better for throwing the boat around, easier to get rotaion... easier to slow the boat down when you want the rotaion to stop.

Backflip hulls are way overrated. IMO... with the mods I have done to my boat, it is plenty nose ligtht... and it is a great Barrel role boat.... Dan Stein can not do a regular role on his SHortened XFT.... but states he will still never go back to standard length... he likes it reel nose high.... I think I am gona try a longer ride plate for surf riding..... that extra 2"s will make a world of difference  And i have no concerns about doing :brap: even with a long plate..... I will just get a little more air.

not for Flatwater.

IMHO .....a better rider will be a better rider always... and better on better equipment.

we go back full circle to the same argument we always have when it comes this topic online... i can't ride pat bogart's boat 1/12th as good as he can.. he's pat bogart bitch!!! same theory applies with am hulls.... thats just my opinion..

Hes also about a 130lbs so a shortened hull would probably benefit him without any drawbacks.

Your 200lbs.... Thats a hole different story.... think about it like surfboards.... someone that weighs 100lbs is gona need a much smaller surfboard then someone who weighs 180lbs....

When is the last time you have done a backflip Saki?

You still ride?

Just making sure... I through one down yesterday... 2nd wave... then stood up in waist deep water and was over them the rest the day.... whats it take to find some deep water in FL.... we need a storm.

:cool2: Its hard to be confident when youve only attempted 4.:splatt: Im still smacking the nose in.

After some more practice, I will have no worries.... the only thing that ever scares me about attempting anything is sand bars :banghead:
you live near the ocean and have only attempted 4? I owe you a kick in the balls too.

the fact that he does that a oem reinforced hull lets us know its not neccessary for us to drop 6k on a hull to do some badass poop in the surf. idk from experience, but from the videos, it seems the waves over there arent as steep , or for lack of a better word, as gnarly. perhaps a longer, heavier, more solid ski is a better setup over here? it seems no one rides an am hull at pismo. like i said, i dont really know or have any experience on a am hull
