GRRR.

I'm pretty frustrated with roll attempts nowadays. I have some very bad habits resulting from doing stabs/inverts for years on a SXi.

Basically, I am too far back, don't put the pole down low enough, and rotate my body to the outside of the rotation.

So, freestylegeek suggested I go back to stabs/broncos and work on form. I did, and thought I was leading the ski more until my wife filmed me last night.

BTW, that's our youngest screaming Daddy! Daddy! and one time when I came in our oldest said "Daddy you were amazing" so that makes me feel better at least.

My other option I'm considering is to start rotating to the left. I've never tried that direction so no habits to break I guess.

I also probably need to make my setup wake the other direction.

I was gonna say more speed also........

Also, when you go into the roll, you body is in the same possition during the roll attempt as it is leading up to it, need to tuck, what I found was to lead with my head and lower the pole..........

Still having issues myself, been suffering the same illness until last last year......... Finally hit on almost on the plate on saturday.....

I have been trying to roll lately too and I just keep doing inverted stabs.

Its hard, for me anyway, to get low and keep the ski tight.

And I'm gettin sick of even the biggest inverted stabs. I need to role dangit!:barrel:

Set up wake.........if turing to the left roll to the left.....if turing to the right, roll right. Rolling off the wave is better than rolling with the wave. More speed and let the nose climb a little more. Looks like once you are inverted you extend or come untucked..........that throws the tail high and nose down.

Hopefully I will be joining you on the river soon

Better to perfect from boat wake then attempt flat or should I start on flatwater attempts now even though I am not plate to plate yet from boat wakes?

rolling off a wake does not help flatwater, but doing flatwater helps off wakes/waves, so I'd work on flatwater. That's part of my problem also, the river is normally crappy when I go ride, but recently it hasn't been so I've been focusing on flatwater again.

Barrel rolls are a pain in the ass.... I hate mine so bad.
I just can't get any style into them.... total "cockroach style"

I won't even atempt a flat roll.... no point in it. I might make it half way

Jett, i've been doing the same thing for the past two years... finally saturday i made my best attempt... lowered the pole, leaned more forward and to the right... i made it the closest i've ever come to a complete BR... no setup wake though... which was a crazy added bonus...

I've had a reeeeeally tough time breaking my bad habbits... most of my rolls end up as inverted subs... but saturdays attempt has put my mind in a different place... = )

We should start a support group, BAd Roll Form Anonymous, or BARFA for short.

I am motivated though, because I've made improvement just in the past week and now have a list to work on, in order.

  1. setup wake to the right, the proper direction
  2. pole down more (it's lower than it has been in the past though, probably from tucking more)
  3. keep my freaking body where it belongs
  4. more speed, which means I'll probably have to go out a bit further and hit the next wave back

JeTT, I see a couple things that you need to work on.

1. Your setup wake. it is WAY to tight. you need to make if less of an angle and go farther away from it before returning back in.

2. Your spin is the opposite of everyone else, but it is possible like that

3. you need more speed comming into the wake.

4. you need some sort of prehop.

The largest problems i see are your wake and speed. For the roll you do not want to hit the wake head on, you want to merge with it sideways....

You need more air.

I was doing pretty good at the end of the season last year. I was nailing 3/4 at decent height, just needed to tuck and lean forward more.
This season, however......I haven't had opportunity to practice much at all so far. I just got back into the groove yesterday. Got one 2/3.
For me, here are my issues:
1. Hitting the setup wake consistently well to get good air
2. Leaning forward
3. Tucking
