just got a 98 SJ hull and i need to fill it.will any 701 work? ive seen some waverunner part outs with 701s. any suggestions on what to drop in?

i would like to spend no more than 1000 on a complete engine w/ carbs. less if i can. havent decided yet on making it a "freestyle" boat, or just an extra for others to ride. mainly got it to learn on (wrenching that is). it was a race boat and has hull extensions and unidentified tubbies bolted on. i am hoping to put together for 2000-2500.was planning on workin on it through the winter and to slowly collect parts for it until then. i only paid 400 for the hull.(a day before i found out that the house im renting is being sold) and now ive got to find a place to live w/ three dogs by july 1st.:banghead::banghead::banghead:

do some reasearch on 61x motors, and 62t motors they're both 701 and the parts are interchangable.

I run an x case with a t cylinder. it's called a frankenstein.

which one is which? this is sooo confusing. there was a post a while back about a wave raider b pipe workin on a SJ. the said the manifold had diff. sizes and would have to be clearanced becaus the wave raidser was a 62t and i asked why it wouldnt work because i thought the newer sj was also a 62t but was told it wasnt.

quick rundown.

61x - single carb good low end power made until 1995
62t - dual carb sit down motor more power than 61x with less low end

96+ sj and 96 blasters came with 61x cylinders on 62t cases. more overall power than 61x motor same low end.

the frankenstein is the cheaper (by a little) and opposite alternative to the "normal" sj motor.
