foot hold help

i am thinking about leaving my tennis shoes behind and going to a wrestling shoe. currently there is too much room in my footholds for the wrestling shoes and i fall out easily when trying to do something. so i think i am gonna add some more turf to the tops of my holds and sand them to conform to the tops of my feet. my question is this...........is there any trick to getting turf to stick to the turf in my holds? do i need to sand my turf to where it has no grooves before adding more turf on top? i was just thinking that with the grooves there would be less surface area for the new turf to stick to. thanks

sanding would probably be the best, but if you use 2-3 layers of contact cement, I don't think you'd have a problem getting it to stick to the non-sanded turf.

so do i sand it to where it is smooth down to the groove (even flat surface) or do i just roughen it up. thanks

I think you'll find once you start sanding it won't take much to get all the way down to where it's flat. Go all the way down to where its flat, or close to it. Doesn't have to be exact. Like I said, use 2-3 layers of contact cement, with sanding, and you won't have any problems with it sticking.

what happened to getting new holds?

after talking to ratti i figured i would try and build up the turf and then mold it to my feet by sanding it in areas. this will help lock me in. i figured i would try this first since it would require the least amount of work. ratti uses rickters and seems to stay in them so i think that if i could get my kickers to fit better they would be sufficient. i like the xft's and thought that they felt really good when i tried them but wish that they were a little farther forward. maybe they can be moved forward a bit.....i am not sure. the revs felt ok too......i think i would have like the revs a little better if they had been tighter on my feet.

My foot is a lot smaller than yours and my revs fit great. I actually had to sand the turf a bit they were too tight with 1/2 inch of padding under the turf on the bottom and on the top I put the 8mm padding just on the inside of the top of my foot so that you couldn't pull them out sideways. I kept sanding untill it fit my foot perfectally then turfed over that padding.

If you sand all of turf down so that there is no groves then one layer might not be thick enough. I would just glue it over the top. You don't even need to sand it. I stuck extra turf over old turf on my old ski before and it held fine. It would rip the turf trying to pull it up. Just try a sample piece and see if you can get it apart.
