Yamaha called the FX-1 pole setup the High Pivot System. I think they did it to copy the look of the 550 (which was still a popular machine back then), or to make it look different than the Squarenose, or to make it easier to ride. I remember when the SX-R came out, Kawasaki marketed that its pole was mounted higher to reduce rider fatigue.
I would rather have a recessed pole for the looks, but at least this way it won't pinch my fingers :smile: I'll be running a lowered Waterdawg pole bracket on it, which Jeff says affects the handling quite a bit.
