Flywheel grease

Hello,

I just pulled the flywheel to replace a bad bendix, and noticed there was some grease in there, pretty thick black stuff. Was there something in there that was greased from the factory, and should clean out the old and regrease when I reassemble?

I have seen people put a dab of grease on the crankshaft when pulling the flywheel but this sounds more like a bad crank seal and fuel/oil is leaking in to the flywheel area.

i load my bendix w/ Lucas oil and grease flywheel, and outer bendix gearing too... IMO it sounds normal... I always have black gunk in there when I pull the cover...
