On a limited budget the Superjet is the only way to go for FLat water freestyle.....<--- wich sucks once you start riding surf anyways.

A SJ will still be much cheaper to build a good surf boat out of...

For the Surf I think the ultimate boat would be a SXR with Trinity 7lb Hood, a 5lb Battery, a way lighter waterbox, stock Roundnose pole, a B-pipe, stock milled head, freestyle porting, footholds and a Scupper..... this setup would be close to the weight of a reinforced Superjet with DRY foam....... the SXR will be way more stable..... land roles way cleaner..... and why the hell couldnt you throw a Backflip on one...... this is just my opinion..... I own a 270lb superjet

Anyone over 200lbs I would highly recomend a SXR for the Surf.

I hate always having to recover from the Tail stand position on a SJ in the surf.

I agree with you there!! SXR wears me out less in pretty much any kind've riding. 40 miles is a long way on a standup (bring gas!!) :)
40 miles is nothing on a SJ. It all depends how choppy the ocean is. Hell, I've ridden 18 miles with a broken ride plate (on SJ) in 2 foot chop...that wasn't fun!

However, I've ridden a HydroSpace for 120 miles in 1 day and I wouldn't even try to attempt that on my SJ...but mostly because of how many times I would need to stop/refuel a SJ. SJ burn a lot more gas when compared the 4-stroke in the HydroSpace.

If I wanted easy I'd just buy a couch. For me, half the fun of riding my SJ is the physical challenge.

Add more power!

I started w/550s, an SJ, tried an SX-R for a year, now back to an SJ (soon w/Tubbies.  ).

If I could trade my hull for a Wammer lightweight SX-R & put the 790 SJ engine in it............:purr: :purr: :purr:

I have both, and it depends what you do with it. In surf imo the sj is better, the sxr can be a handful coming down the face of a wave ( wants to nose dive), but if you want to race or run bouys the sxr really shines. Freestyle/surf riding-sj, racing or flat water carving- sxr.I have both and will keep both

rode one of those 2 weeks ago at vilano......that dude Byrd

full wammer sxr with stock motor (bpipe head blahblah)...it RIPPED!

I have both a full limited 2000 SJ and a stock 06 SXR... All I can say is they are both a blast to ride and I would not want to give either up. I find myself switching back and forth between both and thinking to myself how much fun they both are. Stock for stock I would take the SXR for power, carving and stability but yes the SJ will always be more nimble for jumping.... The major downside of the SXR is that it's a thirsty bi$$$ ! It drinks more gas than my full limited SJ.

i don't know if any of you remember an old volkswagon commercial where the man has a green volkswagon growing on his head because he can't decide if he should buy the new volkswagon bug. he was in a tranz. couldn't concentrate or focus on anything else because he was consumed with whether or not he should buy the vw bug.

well, that's been me trying to decide if i should buy an sxr or sj this summer. i keep going back and forth. i used to have a 550 and 650 and loved both. i have a friend that owns both and i was able to ride both his sj and sxr. both are 100% stock. because the majority of people rave about superjets i expected to prefer the superjet over the sxr, but the complete opposite was true. i really, really, really enjoyed riding the sxr. i was very frustrated with the superjet because it was so squirely to me. i left the water super excited about gettting a sxr. 9 months later i'm still really craving riding the sxr. and i've always enjoyed riding my 550 and 650. and i've always enjoyed riding kawi sitdowns more then yami sitdowns. plus, i think the sxr looks cooler. so in every area i prefer the sxr, BUT when i come onto message boards like this one and the other popular pwc message board the majority of the riders rave about sj. so that causes me to question my decision to get a sxr instead of a sj.

this thread has been great. very helpful in my decision. i've pretty much decided to just get the sxr. instinctively feels right. if later i get bored or want more of a free style ski then i'll get a sj and i'll have both.
