Killer salt in my water jackets. HELP!!!

I had a leaky exaust gasket which I tried to chenge over the weekend. When I opened up the exaust ( SX 750 '93 - stock) There was so much salt stuck to the Water jackets that it was blocking some of the water passing.
How can I get the salt off ?? I am worried about what is in the cilinder.

Worst of all is the feeling of incompetency I had. I really flush it out. at least ten minutes on the hose. And that crap still gets stuck in there.

Wether is absolutly great. Water was bath tub hot this weekend. no kidding.
not a cloud in the sky at my beach place. water was pretty nice and flat.

How do you tank it??

I use to work auto parts store years ago, and they would chemically dip aluminum engine blocks to get them clean and ready to rebuild.

a radiator shop usually has a tank for boiling out radiators and removing scale and salt deposits. try calling a local radiator shop, they can probably help:biggthumpup:

are you using any salt away like product when you flush your ski out?

where are you seeing the blockage? at the cyl/manif gasket or at the manif/headpipe gasket?

cyl/manif is bad.

manif/headpipe is normal due to the silly hollow design of that area.

Has this ski been owned only by you? I doubt this salt-build has occured just over the course of the past year with you flushing. I would take a wire brush, clean it up (if reachable) and then just continue flushing like usual. Its probably been built up for a while.

I've been scraping that salt crap out of a cylinder I have. I do it in my spare time with a pick of some sort. It's been months but its almost done!

I think Meatball's got it. It has probably been building up for years. I only ride salt water and sometimes don't even flush the motor. When I've pulled it apart there is virtually nothing in there. Mabey Yamis are impervious to salt. I guess you know whats comming next?

i am with lbe i only ride in salt in fact i dont think my ski has ever seen fresh and i sometimes dont flush my ski and there is never any salt residue in there

Guys, thanks for all the answers and questions. I am really lost and worried about this salt.

Here are my answers to your questions:

Fearlessnuts, No I have not used any salt away prod. All I do is flush it well with a a garden hose.

SFlSurfrider, So far I have not removed the manifold. From what I can tell there was a lot of deposit on the manifold, close to where the Exaust hooks up. Might be going deep though. I tried to pry some of it loose with a small srewdriver. Didn't get it all. Should I remove the manifold for a better look?

Meatball, No I'm the possible 3rd owner. I bought it from my mechanic, who happens to have owened it for at least three years. the prior owner to him I also know, What I worry about is that he was an Old guy and likes stock stuff, but I now know that some things have been changed ( water box is for the 94 model, exaust I would not know how to tell). My mechanic was also very surprised when I called him and told of my findings.

LBE, I have no Idea whats next, but I'm getting a little worried. Am I screwed?? hahaha

Ha!!My dream!!!! I really would like one, but it just comes out to expensive to bring one to Brazil. Would cost me from U$ 1500 to U$ 2000 if I legally bring it. So I will just sit back and wait for a kind soul to come from the States and willing to hand carry the pipe.

So for the time being I will have to make do with the one I've got. tough luck, huh!
