hardlo pro looking, but that was the just the rough.

I had it in my mind that changing that long rectangular port like that maybe I could increase the velocity of the intake stream..

maybe it wont work WORSE than stock.

Just for us cheap fockers that don't want to pay for 62t cases. I bought these cases last winter, and the previous owner said they were ported. I didn't really look at them too much until I recently bought a set of unported cases to get the crank out of them. FIgured I'd post some pics to see what you guys thought. I know this came up before, and it turned into a 62t case porting thread. Here's pics of both for comparison.

I thnk you guys are using b-pipes as bongs

Ha ha

Nah all poer to you
but the picture in there shows the main thing on the 61x that i dislike
the boost port is in a situation where the mixture has to do a 180 degree turn
so there isnt any bdc air ram effect up the transfers

since the boost port is there to straighten flow out of the 4 main transfers it will be harder to get a consistant flow in the top of the cylinder
When you port it it may be better but its still a weak area

All power to you guys i think your doing great stuff

I dunno, look @ the last 2 pics. They made significant changes to the sides of the intake port, so it feeds more directly into the sides of the cylinders.

Those cuts are pretty deep too. I didn't take any pics from the top, and I've already put the crank and pistons in it. I'll see if I can get some pics of it.

thought id help yall out since i rescently ported my X cases!!:Banane01: i mainly focused on how it feeds directly into the sides of the cylinders

Indeed.
I have a feeling I will be starting a 650 Homeporting thread sometime soon. Cases and Cylinders. :sneaky:

And Phill will be able to contribute on what not to do to 61X cases. :haha:

On that note, I was comparing cylinders this weekend that I ported.
Exhibit 1: A 61X cylinder with stock sleeves at 84mm bore
Exhibit 2: A 6M6 cylinder with stock sleeves at 77mm (?) bore.

Man, those 61X sleeves look like rice paper compared to the 6M6.

Hey! I thought of that first! I kidd, I kidd.

But, I did think of exactly that when I examined stock 61X cases this weekend over some alcoholic beverages. :sneaky:

This motor project should be a nice surprise...here's a sneak preview:

(Okay, it's actually two motors)

#1 FS ported 6M6 cylinder bored to 81mm, making it a 701, on ported 6M6 cases, with Riva Red Pipe

#2 FS ported 6M6 cylinder bored to 82mm, making it a 717, on ported 6M6 cases, with Coffman Sizzler Pipe.

The porting for the cylinders is marginally different. I'll post pics when the time comes.
Also, I am not entirely sure about #2 yet. This will be my wife's Square, and she is adamantly resisting anything past stock 650 bore. Soooo....either I sneak in the big bore, or it will be limited to 633cc.

Does she comprehend the thermodynamics of thinner sleeves and heat transfer?

Or does she simply not want you " screwing up my boat!"

haha

My wife wants me to paint hers, she wont let me open the hood if its running.

LOL...yeah, it's the "screwing up HER boat" and not wanting "too much power". I don't get that one. :dunno:

She is kind of afraid of my ski - she said hers is an ideal power level for her.

She is used to last years powerplant:
Stock 650 all the way, even exhaust, with pump stuffer on top of it.

I say she's in for a surprise. :haha:

EDIT: But yes, she does want it painted. That's THE number 1 thing on HER list. PINK.
