There definitely is a “pump side” and a “handlebar side” on the cable. You’ll see when you get it and hold it up to the pole.
When installing, check as you go for routing, fitment, binding, interference, etc.
Most applications allow you to adjust how close to the pivot point the cable attaches, both on the steerer nozzle side and turn plate side. These adjustments enable one to “fine tune” steering response slower or quicker. Sometimes in aftermarket applications, interference may limit where you can attach the cable ends- refer back to the “check as you go” part above. As far as steering response goes, it’s personal preference and easy to adjust later.
I don’t use locktite on the cable itself. The jambnuts do a good job but check them every ride.
