Freestyle Who did first backflip ever?

Saw Rick do it in the surf at Boynton beach, FL . " classified" at the time , because he did it officially a few days later at Ft Lauderdale , IJSBA / Budweiser Tour stop in 1996. Keep in mind, " modern" freestyle was sort of created by Jeff Kantz, Havasu 1993. He did a barrel roll on a X-2 off a boatwake. I still remember all the mewling and whining: he cheated- he used a boat wake!. These two maneuvers contributed to the demise of the hood tricks and others. Further the affiant sayeth not.

GASKETS FOR CHAMP BRAP!
Is there video of Rick? Or vhs? Be cool to see it.

I have the original video of him doing it in the surf on a disc somewhere... He gets inverted and his SJ hull barely tips a little sideways as he goes through the back flip. It was probably all he could do to maintain being inverted while(at the time) trying to resist the natural temptation of going sideways to a big whipped out nose stab.

It's just huge from that shot. And sticks it perfect. 2009? I think?

I wonder if Rick had foot holds in 1996?

I remember back in '96 when I saw skis racing on tv. It was the Speedvision channel up here. The freestyle show always had Rick Roy as a main attraction and if I remember correctly, that was his weekend hobby sport. He was originally a full time firefighter if memory serves me, I also seem to think I heard it announced that he is Canadian too.

The OG guys are such heros to the sport. I didn't get into this stuff till 2012. And I missed all them but I research all of them now.
