Hi, Ive been wondering how the reserve fuel system works in a superjet. My SJ ran out of fuel and when I turned the knob to the right, the SJ still didnt start. The SJ is second hand but runs really well and I have not experienced any other problems with it. Could you guys tell me what to look out for under the hood ?

You may need to crank it longer to prime the reserve line. Sometimes it's air bound and needs the fuel pump to do its thing to make auction on the line you now opened by turning the petcock to reserve.
Also, double check that the pickup in the tank is actually lower for the reserve than the "ON"

Sometimes you have to push the bent metal elbow further down in the rubber on the pickup to get it low enough.
Also check the petcock that is not clogged.
Compressed air helps with this test.

The way it works is thee is 2 fuel pickups, the reserve goes deeper into the tank than the primary. The selector just lets you pick which pickup is currently in use.
Common problems are reserve and primary got reversed at the tank. The pickups were tampered with and dont go deep enough. A leaking or otherwise malfunctioning petcock (selector).
Stock parts ae labeled so make sure the pri on the tank goes to pri on the petcock, etc. If still a problem, take the cover off and make sure the pickups are kn the riht spot. If still a problem, then plug the reserve line directly into the carbs which bypasses the petcock.

when the line on the selector knob points to 3 o'clock, it's in the "reserve" position , when it is pointing down to the 6 o'clock position it is "off". When pointing to the left- at 9 o'clock- it is on "main"

Hmmm.... my noob is installed in a way that i can turn it 9 o'clock, 12 o'clock, and 3 o'clock..... the plot thickens
Take off the lines and blow air through them. Then you will know for sure which is which.

Yeah your petcock is mounted upside down. You were running on reserve not "on". Simple fix.
