best way to shape and trim 25mm underpad.

I'm thinking of having a tighter fit to my holds where I need to kick in. good idea or bad?

The skis I have owned have had the turf tight so that I have to kick in the holds. I prefer it that way becuase it really feels like the holds are doing something instead of just being holes in the gunwhales. A friend of mine has the 24-7 bindings with very little turf/padding to tighten them up and it just doesn't feel secure at all.

I love the turf that was on the boat I got from Chic.....nice and tight, really gives a nice postive feeling of a foot-boat connection..but just as easy to kick out....

the main reason for it is that I'd like to not shave more than half the thickness of the underpad in the hold.
