Ski won't shut off

I rebuilt a neglected 650sx from the ground up and finally have it running. My issue is that it won't shut off with the stop switch. Every time I shut it off I have to put my hand over the exhaust to choke it out. I tested the stop switch with a multimeter and it shows a high resistance when depressed so I think it is working.

I also pulled the spark plugs and disconnected the stop switch completely and I am still getting spark. I think I even started the ski earlier with the stop switch wires completely disconnected. I am not great with electrical work but I have a multimeter and can follow directions.

Please help! This is my last problem besides tuning the carb in this long quest to hit the water.

Maybe I'll get it all the way around NEXT time....

The stop switch should ground out. Try to test continuity when depressing the stop button.

Attach both sides of the switch to your tester leads. It should read open, or very high resistance. When the button it's pressed, it should go to zero or nearly zero resistance.
It's been a while, it might be completely opposite of that, but the testing would be the same.

The switch does the opposite of what you said by the way. Low resistance until the switch is pressed and then it goes to a high resistance if I am remembering correctly. The ski also gets spark with the switch completely disconnected (switch circuit open). Should I try with the switch circuit closed?

I had the bullet connectors come loose inside the e-box for my stop bottom and I just lightly sanded them put some dielectric grease on them and it fixed it. Good luck

I know it has been a couple years but I think I ended up pulling the start/stop switch apart and cleaning the contacts and that fixed the issue. So I must have been testing the switch improperly because that did end up being the problem.

The stop switch on a kawi interrupts the spark. If the stop switch is working, it will crank over but without spark. If the stop switch is not working, then it will turn have spark all the time. It does not work like a Yamaha. The lanyards only keep the stop button from being pressed. So, if your stop button is not working, then you will always have spark.

The stop switch should read 0 when open and infinity when pressed. Test the switch at the plug. If Igbo works properly, then open the ebox and test the switch at the bullet connectors.

If it doesn't read ininity at the plug, then the switch is bad.
If ignore reads infinity at the plug but not at the bullet connectors, then the plug is bad.

In my experience, it's always been the plug. Jetmaniac can sell you an oem replacement plug if that is the issue. Replacing the plug with bullet connectors is a hassle if you need to change switches later. I used weather pack on a recommendation and they suck for marine applications.
