If you have any you aren't 100% happy with I'll gladly pull them out of the trash. ? :biggthumpup:
I wish all hull manufacturers would post pictures of their hulls in different stages of the build process.
I would love to see their top of the line hulls as well as the less expensive units built for those who might be more financially challenged.
That way we could compare what each manufacturer is doing, what materials are being used and what you get for your $$$.

Do you still have to glass over watercraft factory footholds to prevent them from cracking? Previously, I heard multiple accounts where they've been too thin.

I've glassed over EVERY pair of footholds I have installed---regardless of brand name. :cool2:

I would like to know the weight of an OEM bottom deck vrs. an aftermarket bottom. We all know the top deck is not where the weight is, so why not a bottom deck conversion if the weights are worthy of the $ & work? This could be a cheaper way to a light hull?????

I know squarenose bottoms can weigh like 56lbs :bigeyes: So in all honesty a conversion ski is kind of pissing in the wind. The bottom deck is what is so heavy. Aftermarket bottoms typically weigh about 30-35lbs. prepreg can get it down to about 15-20 but in all honesty if you ride hard that will only last you a season maybe 2 in flatwater. A total prepreg hull can weigh like 50lbs and be durable for the "average rider". However don't plan on running that thing up on the trailer like I do with my square :biggrin: Every hull was built with a purpose in mind. OEM was made for durablity, aftermarket is typically made to be light and perform...........but may sacrafice some long term durablity. When I do a aftermarket hull I realistically want a durable ski that will last 3-5 seasons of hard use.

The foam is what gives the footholds their strength, not the material the footholds is made of.

I'd say it is 50/50. If it is to thin when the foam expands it can press out, crack or make the foot hold bulge, slightly changing its shape. Ideally you want the hold about the same thickness as the glass around it. My .02 :tomato: If it starts cracking when you screw into it it is to thin.

I think it varies from year to year. I think the tops and hoods of squares are SMC. Bottoms are glass..........I think. The SMC is the brown stuff.

I glass over the screws anyhow, if it cracks oh well. the glass takes care of it.
I have yet to see a set of footholds bulge out unless there were not enough rivets or screws used, and have not seen that happen yet, I did have a miniture MT Vesuvious (SP!) once on my ski, that foam kicked off so fast it spewed over the top.
