Hey Guys i Bought a Second Hand SXR Dry Pipe and have a few Questions Firstly on my pipe it is bunged of on the top fitting where the clear hose goes why would this be? and the other end has a brass jet in it is this supose to be there ??? and on the clear pipe on the picture what is the part circled? is there any other mods that should be done when fitting this pipe to stop cracks etc???Dry Pipe.jpgSXR DRY PIPE.jpgSXR DRY PIPE JET.jpg SXR DRY PIPE.jpgDry Pipe.jpg

the factory pic has the sand filter circled. that stops sand from plugging up that jet that you have circled. that jet restricts the amount of water that cools the coupler and the waterbox. the jet they recommend is too small and the waterbox gets too hot, melts the waterbox support foam and lets the waterbox rattle on the hull, making a terrible rattling sound.i would drill that jet out a bit bigger or put at least a 155 in there. i dont know why that plug is in there but it needs to be like the pic.

Thanks for the Reply Buzzard
if im not going to run a water box do you still recommend going to a 155 jet??
and i heard the pipe can cause the jug or pipe to crack is there anything that can be done to stop this???
regards Robert

look into a girdled head. they are designed to cope with the "cylinder cracking from extra weight scenario"

that brass plug should not be there. run the water lines just like the picture.

Sounds like a great idea.

SXR dry pipe and no waterbox? Outta your mind? Thats what he is alluding to. Also the stock provided jet seems to work well with dual cooling, otherwise increase jet size for more water/cooling. Seriously run a waterbox, you will see no pluses not running one.

Ok thanks this is my first standup and first Kawasaki and I just figured it would be safe to run something like a Jetdraft style ,TDR or Factory Pipe inline muffler/resonator with a High U pipe at the Exhaust Tip...
But I will Listen to everyones recommendations and run a waterbox :)

So it would be your opinion when running the pipe not to run a Stock Milled/CC'd Head
it would be a Stronger Option to Get a After Market Head with a Girdle??

i swap jets based on water temp. warmer water i will pull the jet out or install a larger drilled jet. cooler temps i usually install the 150-155 jet. you really wont notice much from swapping a jet, its more to cool the coupler/waterbox enough so it doesnt melt

Fictious. My cylinder hasn't cracked, I've had a dry pipe for three years.

i also know a fellow who has run a dry pipe on an sxr for over 5 years with no cracking. but then i have heard stories quite the contrary as well from people who have had their cylinders crack in a matter of months. i think it boils down to how well you align your pipe and the type of riding you do. jumping waves all day is going to be harder on it than doing laps on a course.

personally, i have run a tbm girdled head since the moment i installed the dry pipe as a precautionary measure. its ease of use is also appealing to me(the ability to change domes, o ring sealing, ect.)
