Some guys ran their dry pipes with the top fitting plugged, and ran specific water injection setups to fine tune their exhausts. Unless you're a die hard racer, this is unnecessary. Throw a brass elbow in it and hook it up to the stinger fitting per FPP instructions. All of us guys took the jet out of our stinger's because they still got too hot, especially on warm summer days. My foam actually caught on fire once, not fun. I supplied plenty of water to it too. Without the jet, I noticed no performance differences. I'd rather be safe than sorry.
I would also recommend a girdled head. I too ran a dry pipe without a girdled head for three years and had no issues, but on my next motor the cylinder cracked within a month. Truthfully it's probably just the luck of the draw, but I would always run a girdle to be safe.
Take time and line up your pipe to the mounts, even if you have to slot the holes in the mounting brackets. It will help immensely.
