SXR Take-off help request

I had an SXi Pro, and it had wide flat side rails above the tray that I could place my elbows on while putting out away from boat dock/no-wake areas.
Then I could take off by pulling myself up (elbows supporting weight) to put foot on tray.
Now I have an SXR, and the rails are very narrow and my elbows slip right off (more so with sunscreen on), my elbow(s) fall into tray, and jet wash nails my leg (ouch).

How do you guys do it?

i used to do the elbows on sides.. then i side mounted once.. and never looked back... but i've got a sj so not sure if it would work as well on an kawi? i'm still trying to figure out why everyone in SD rides kawi and not sj.. haha

Take off all the pads, glass over the holes and get some hydroturf and underpadding. There are threads on how to turf an SXR.

If not doing tricks or smashing the top deck into the water, I'd keep the oem pads. SXRs are pretty stable, especially in stock form. I would just kneel in the tray and hold the bars..... Maybe I don't get the question?

Question was with narrow rails (above tray) my elbows slip off when I idle out of wake zones/boat docks.
Replacing the rails with turf would work, but would not retain the 'ski's appearance that I like.
Mounting from the side - superhuman! You da man!
Pushing down on rear, kneeling and gassing it would work, will do that, thanks.

But I'm still left with how to slowly "taxi" out of wake zones - I don't think kneeling and keeping upright would allow speeds slow enough.
Just wondered how you guys, with more experience, do it.

Just kneel and hold the bars. With a little practice you will be set. On a stock ski, I had good luck kneeling and getting my weight as far forward as possible. You really should be able to fast idle kneeling with no problem. Again....... I'm pretty dumb, so if I am missing it, let me know.

For reference:

My wife (minimal athletic ability) can idle and stand on a SXR all day long. She can kneel with the engine off.

I, on the other hand, need a bit more throttle, lol

The SX-R is much more stable than the SXI-Pro. Push down the rear, knees into the tray and you can taxi out off the no wake zone, no problem. I'm +200 lbs and the SX-R is the only stand up I can balance on my knees with the engine off.

Dude... just put your knees in the tray and start it. You could even just hang off the back, start it, and pull yourself up using your hands instead of your elbows while it's idling. In shallow water just throw one knee in and start it.
This is a silly thread.

With experience, you will stand at an almost idle....especially on a stable SXR. I go through all no wake zones standing.
I used to be able to stand on mine without it running. (Only weighed about 160 back then)

I can kneel in my backiechan and float engine off but I've been doing sports that require perfect balance for most of my life, 5 mph zones I usually stand in the tray and pull trim - like walking upstairs, really good workout. It's all practice man, I live on practice. The more I practice the less practice it takes
