SJ Hydroturf Pattern

I seem to remember reading that someone made a pattern for an SJ with footholds to hydroturf with. Does anyone have that pattern? I can't seem to find it through the search engine. Thanks for your time.

wamiltons makes a freestyle kit and i think you can get one directly from HT, but IMO, youre better off buying turf by the sheet and cutting your own templates. much cleaner and cheaper.

I figured I would order some 'B' Stock from HT and throw it on. I have never done turf with fooholds, just without, hence why I was curious if anyone had a pattern.

I suppose if I just take my time, I should be able to do it without a pattern.

Any other pointers?

cut your gunwhale pieces just like stock and use a heat gun to make the curves. it helps to build up the area above the footholds with some padding so the turf doesnt have to make such a radical curve. once you have your 2 gunwhale pieces installed, you can cut your tray piece all in one piece instead of 3 (like the wammer kits come) again, much cleaner that way. youll then have a gap inside the footholds where there is no turf, make a templare out of card board to fit in that "banana-shaped" gap and use it to cut a piece of turf to fit.

i could go on and on but i dont wanna use all the sites bandwidth with turf info LOL

Sounds good. I'll look into it. Thanks again.

Cutting your own is harder but comes out perfect. Kits are a little mitchmatched but some come out good. 24/7 kits for instance w/ holds fit mine very well.

I'd say just go for HT directly in sheets

I think Doug is looking for the pattern directly.... not asking for where to get pre cut or how to do it freehand with the sheets.

I know a few on here have patterns saved (from the kits) for turfing and hopefully they be kind enough to share. I know I'll need one next winter when I paint and re-turf and buying the $100+ kit just to get the pattern doesn't make sense when I'd want to turf the holds in one piece. So the only pattern I'd really need is the one for the cuts to go over the gunwhales.

Exactly what I'm looking for. Thanks for the help:biggrin: Anyone?

I just installed Tom21 holds in mine, and will be making up a pattern today - I'll be happy to share it with you guys, but keep in mind that where exactly your holds are in the tray will determine whether or not the pattern is a perfect match - obviously you'll need to fit it up, check and correct before cutting any turf - in other words, every install requires a unique pattern in a way. I'll toss up what I have when I'm through.

Haa, i used foil as well... seemed to work good enough. Just the actual turf a hair bigger than my foil and then trimmed down during numerous dry fits... Its like everyone says time consuming and tedious to get right.

Since we're on the topic. I'm turfing next weekend (as well as putting every nut and bolt back into the currently bare ski), how much time is involved in full turf job? An 8 hour days work? That's about all Ive afforded myself time-wise before the Wisconsin Dells Freeride on the 31st of the month.

Usually the longer it takes, the better it turns out. More test fits, less chance to make errors. I like madmat's idea with the foil i used an old sheet as a template for my last turf job. Just take your time and try not to rush it and it should turn out good!
