Other New Standups? New Brands?

Hey everyone,

Just was wondering... Outside of Yamaha, Kawasaki and Polaris, has there ever been another company to get into standups? Having just started the sport last year, and the amount of questions I get on the lake, Im actually surprised that stand ups in general are dying rather than evolving.

Would you guys as enthusiasts be excited to see a new company enter the stand up market, one that starts from the ground up and helps to bring the sport back?

I realize that for most of us in the sport you build a ski, customize it etc... I'm just wondering if there would be interest in a totally new take on a stand up.

Cool! Thanks for the link man, I have some reading to do.

But as far as another company that designs and builds skis (like Yamaha kawi) from the ground up... There are none?

There are only a handful of companies that build complete skis as a package like kawi/yamaha, Hydrospace is one of them. Hydrospace specializes in 4-stroke skis.

Many of the aftermarket hull companies will build a complete ski upon request. It's not like Yamaha in that the skis are made to order. They work more on custom orders I think.

As far as why stand ups are going away, it's because people are fat and lazy. Couches were pulling 60mph in 2000 with no effort required. They outrun standups w/o using any strength, endurance or skill, all things which have become very uncool in America.

One last thing is that the EPA doesn't allow 2-strokes to be mass produced anymore. Yamaha can do it because the SJ fleet is so small the EPA allows them to continue to sell. There's not a very big market for 4-stroke standups. We have 2 hydrospace in our area and they are both running the seadoo 951 motor.
