Super Jet CDI keeps burning up

This spring i had to replace my stock CDI, no surprise, it was all corroded. But now that the season is over, my new CDI is already bad!!! i know nothing is water proof, but the new CDI's should be able to withstand water better than the stock CDI, and it lasted 10 years. Could i possibly have a short somewhere that could have burnt out my CDI??? has anyone else had this problem??? I would think that a CDI should last longer than one season.

Did you replace original french fried oem with another oem cdi or a/m?

no it was an A/M CDI, "the blue box" i cannot remember who made it... but looking at it it seems like water could have gottin in through the rubber around the wires, i think my next one i may just silicone all around the wires...

hmm, well i am not too worried about my 6m6 burning up, cause i am going to drop in a 61x, so i dont need to get an enhancer or cut it open and put in an ajustable diode, lol. But i will take a look at that too kevbo, thanks

I bought a ski with a bad CDI. If your ever doing a compression test hold the kill button while cranking, or ground the spark plug wires. I have seen and heard of OEM CDI's frying when you dont ground out the spark. I dont know why this is, i always assumed the energy builds up too much and jumps a circuit in the CDI or something to that extent. Other than that water is a dead give away.

Get a used oem cdi, they are super reliable and waterproof. We have them cheap if needed.

I could use one for a 61x lol....

And when checking compression there should be no reason to hold down the kill switch while checking compression, just pull the other plug.. lol. But that is an interesting thought though... will keep that in mind, thanks.

You need check with both plugs out anyways.... You need to ground your cables so the spark energy that was going to go to your plug can disperse elsewhere
