Best way to drill into top deck?

So I need to drill another hole for a second pisser and I was wondering what the besy way to do that is.

I was thinking put a piece of masking tape down and then drill from the outside in.

Any suggestions (drill bit, tape or no tape, outside-in/inside-out) would be greatly appreciated.

I normally drill a small pilot.....then use a stepped drill bit thing (no idea what it's actually called) and widen it to the desired width. I wouldn't worry too much about very minor imperfections, becuase the pisser you install will cover the hole edges.

I like to use a hole saw.
Drill in the pilot bit and than I put the drill on reverse. I let the hole saw cut through the nice shiny stuff with the teeth going backwards, once the shine is cut through I put the drill in forward and go to town.
Never had any rough edges.

The only way I do it is with a UniBit. Super clean with a chamfered hole.

The unibit is a great choice for thin wall material like the top deck. I have even used the flat wood bits with good results. Like Waste said, just drill holes, no worries.

Masking tape will help to prevent the drill bit from walking. THose unitbits are pretty good at not walking, or if you have split tip drill bits they should be OK. If it is already painted, I would put the masking tape on, it won't harm anything and should just about eliminate the problem of the bit walking.
I had one drill walk on me and scratch my freshly painted ski (the hole drill for my front exhaust). I wasn't super happy about that. In the future I'm going to make sure all holes are drilled before I start painting.
