Custom/Hybrid dip switch guide for TL

Hey guys I bought my buddies msd total loss of of him. He was running it in his trinity that had the following:
Dasa 1100 16mm
Powerfactor pipe
Novie 48's
Race gas

I will be putting it into my:
Dasa 950 8mm stroker
Black jack 48'
91 octane pump gas

Both skis also had 148 mag pumps. Will I have to switch the switches? If so what would I switch them to?

If I were you, I'd go to the msdpowersports.com website, download the instructions for that ignition, and map out what curve it currently has. Then build an appropriate pump gas curve.

Yup. You got to do some reading. You should not just swap it over and ask what to flick. You need to know what your doing and why. It's not difficult system to learn. Find out from dasa what curve they recommend for your setup and start from there.

How does one learn? With out blowing stuff up, any good links for advice...

true or false
Essentially the switches on the back of the MSD do the same as the program used to tune the flame/epic, advancing or retarding timing at specific rpm correct?

Ok, the term static timing refers to what you set your stator(or equivalent) at? 32 degrees being stock?

I don't know what stock is. Static timing for TL is simply the number of degrees the pickup fires before the piston reaches top dead center.

The signs of over advanced/retarded timing are?
Is that what is referred to as a miss or can you backfire ect

Too much timing and the ski will actually start and run backwards @ 32 degrees you run that risk, although you can back plenty of timing out with a MSD digital TL.

I forgot!
I have been running 32 for years with 195 psi pump gas motors. Cut it back at 5500 but do it fast. I think I run 3 degrees when I hit my rev limiter of 8500.

Im just setting up my buddies TL quick question before we proceed....
When piston is TDC and the LED is lit that is 0 Degrees, Rotate the stator plate to desired static timing correct?

The MSD manual I linked has detailed instructions on how to do it.

1. Put piston at TDC.
2. Rotate flywheel until the LED lights up. (Rotate in the right direction!)
3. Read timing from flywheel and little pointer fabbed up from wire or something.
4. Adjust stator plate until you get the desired static timing.

Did you have to removed -5 degre from static to real timing on a MULTI Channel system ?
on older digital TL Msd @ 32 degré static -5 = 27 degre real timing and you selected on dip switch from 0 to -7 less timing desired correct .

The newer Multi channel doesn't have that "feature"
