IMO #1 is a shiety deal.....you can only do so much on a limited ski. At least allow some power! Pat has proved that the right rider can rip on a Amerature class legal ski.
Jeremy Parr won the 2004 Nationals AM Freestyle on a stock hull, stock cylinders, Screwed up JSS modified 38mm carbs, stock hood even........ You dont have to have all the bling to go out there and kick some booty.

Maybe a beginner class AND amature? Let the beginner class compete for next to nothing..... (Low entry fee)
Somebody with a pimped 800-1000cc motor, a/f hull, who has prolly been riding years and years does fit the true definition of 'amature'.

Very true. However, there are lots of folks out there whose ski would fall above those limits.
I am willing to bet that #2 would fit the bill for most freestylers/freeriders, and still not be so far removed from #1 as to make those guys unable to win at all.

Whats in pancake petes and what is in yours slut?

I'm legal for option 2

760cc w/ porting and stock hull

pete has aftermarket hull, 6mm stroker, 780cc or so, I think
so he would be option 4

See, that's the thing. We can come with rules & revolutions to no end.
We need consistent enforcement of those rules.

I am between classes (@ school), and skimming the threads but I am glad to see us taking initiative on these issues.

With the turnouts at the rides we have been expereincing, I think we can make a great impact on the PWC f/s circuit. We seem to be doing well with promotion, exposure, and turnout; so I think it would be great if we can make f/s competition actually competitive.

You could write an exception to the AM hull/deck rule that places a weight limit.
I.E., stock hull, but if you do have an AM hull/topdeck, it must weigh at least XXX lbs.

looks to me so far that we just need the slack asses to enforce what we already have as rules

so not a lot of guys running over 800cc? and if they are they would not fall into the amature catagory right? I mean how many guys have no skill and just go out and buy a boat from Malone or Lenzi or LPW?

We do need consistent enforcement. The rules need to be changed though, and THEN Consistently enforced. Someone stated in another thread about how the rules have been neglected so now we cant start enforcing them. If new rules were impossed with new classes, it would give a starting point to enforce them from.

I think no matter the weight. If it says no aftermarket hulls, we have to stick to that. Weather its a surf monster or not. That is where the line must be drawn.

If an expert class is created, it should allow aftermarket hulls.

The point of an Aftermarket hull in freestyle is weight. In surf, it's mostly strength.
In order to accomodate the limited number of riders interested (i.e., Pete!), a weight limit exception on AM hulls could provide for that.
However, taking into account the inconsistent rule enforcement and downright bone-headedness of tech inspectors, the no am hull rule might be easier to enforce.

And please don't try creating more classes. All this division is deadly to competition, imho.
Yes, lines need to be drawn, but we don't need a f'n labyrinth.
