Super Jet Installed MSD enhancer and ski runs like crap

I just installed a MSD enhancer in my 94 61x/61x 701cc Superjet. Ski has a b-pipe, milled head and lighten flywheel. Once I installed the MSD and did a test start, I noticed that the skis idle was higher and it was running rough, and when given gas sounded like it was pre-detonating and ran like crap. Switched back to the stock CDI, raised the idle back up gave it gas and it sounded nice and smooth. Kind of lost on what could be causing this. Any one else have this problem?

Obviously, double check your install.

Either the enhancer is bad, the wiring was off, or you sealed up a grilled cheese sandwich in your electrical box and that's having a detrimental effect.
 
All test where with the ebox out of the ski and open. ebox is supper clean all connections free of rust. I even got someone else to come double check the wiring. if the enhancer is bad wouldn't i get that no spark tell let go of start button thing everyone talks about? Should i be running br8hs is stead of b8hs ?
 
LOL their is lots of crawfish running around now trying not to get eaten! i'll go check lol.......... the two white wires i think if i switch them then i'll get the whole no spark tell let off the start button thing. Haven't tried but i think i will give it a shot..... I was thinking of hooking it up to the hose and letting it run for a few mins and then checking my plugs for signs of detonation or pre- ignition.

Define, running "rough"...any loss in power?

Usually if its misfiring or pre detonation it will run slow and less powerful.

It could just be the enhancer made more power. I remember when I first put in my enhancer, I thought the same thing. But after riding another friends setup with and enhancer I just noticed that the MSD does make it feel a little different.


Just wondering if its a placebo effect...

So no need for the white jumper wire that came with the msd correct? Just trying to establish if you have 61x electrics or not.

If it was like mine it sounds normal. Just ride it or at least put the pump in the water. Mine idled rough and the dry b pipe was tin'ie sounding. It defiantly sounds nothing like a stock cdi would.
With your prior mods you should
Notice a very nice increase throughout rpm!
 
Ran it today! Ski ran good, didn't loose any power but didn't really gain any ether, however I did notice that I got a smoother powerband, and the ski sounded alittle more throaty. The ski needs to be tuned so it wasn't a fair test. Spark plugs look good no sings of detonation or pre-ignition. I think once its tuned it I will notice a bigger difference.

well you need both, but the enhancer was very noticeable over a stock cdi.

i though about this last night and i also had my static timing advanced as well.
do you know where the rev limit is set now? i suggest cranking up to the 8000 range. just dont go crazy wot without load on the pump
 
left the rev limiter set as it came from the factory which is set at 8000. I was coming from a moded CID so the whole rev limit thing wasn't new to me.
