I hate Superjets now. (electrical)

Way to get me syked on getting a Superjet. Boy is this lame. 2nd time getting towed in. I'll never make the Daytona Freeride the way this is going.


Why does it still lose spark as it's trying to start warm? I already bypassed the lanyard. Is it the stop switch? Do Yamaha solenoids have a relay in the starting system? Why? I want the thing to idle and stop when it's supposed to.



Cant i just put in an old Kawi start/stop switch that i got just layin around?










My poor handling Kawasakis never did that.

are you sure it's not sparking? are you pulling the plugs and not seeing any spark?

I can never remeber if it's the black and white or red and brown wires but you can't do it wrong it only runs one way (i think its black/white). unplug one of them (near the e-box) comming from the start stop swith is the off circuit for the off button and the lanyard. if you still have no spark its not your start/stop switch.

do your coil wires have sleves on them? I've heard they can short out to the motor before the spark gets to the plugs when they get old when you don't have sleves and they get wet.


Take you plug boots off and unscrew your plug cap. trim of a ¼" of your cable (more if the wire is still not good at that length) and put back together.

you could have a bad CDI. they can start having intermitant spark problems when they go bad.

look at the spark when it does run. is it blue/white or yellow/orange? if it's yellow/orange you have a bad coil. while checking out the coil you can test it with an ohm meter. do a search here or at pwct to find the right readings.

I know these problems can suck I've been through it. too.

my ski did similar things. i think the starter ground was bad.
so i ran a new ground from the neg terminal on the battery to a diff location and it fired right up

First thing is to turn your idle speed down to where the engine will not idle when in the water, or dies in a couple of seconds. Then disconnect the black & white kill switch wire. If the problem goes away you'll know where to proceed.

Is this in salt water?

dude that post was funny as hell...I remember reading that.....


funny thing....you know how I have that hatred towards blasters.......I had one that would do the same thing...

I must have dis- and reassasembled it comepletely 15 times and still couldnt get it to run right.....

granted, I am a little better at diagnosing problems now (or maybe I just have more spare parts to swap in)....but man o man I remember those days....





this is her...she was SOOOOO freaking pretty......but I must have logged about 45 mins run time in the 8 months I owned it...


good new being that I bought it for 1500 with trailer, and later on sold the hull, bpipe and shortblock for....yup, 1500!

she went to a local guy I know, and now lives her life as a yard monkey...most likely never to be ridden again

Unplug the white wire in the ebox I had a short somewhere in the wire that goes from the box to the switch wire plugs. Spray the plug with some wd40 and keep it out of the bottom of the hull. It doesn't take much to complete that circuit.

Got it. . .. Disconected the stop switch and no problem. Now how do i stop it? Do i have to do what Stricky does? Idok, i cant ride as good as you so a non-idling ski is out of the question.

Did a resistance test on the stop switch and guess what? We have a resistance leak. I think its enough to stop the relay and ground the start system.







. . . . . . . Kawasaki switch installed. This thing better be ready for the Freeride.

another thing to consider is your sparkplug wires if youre riding in saltwater. if theyre brittle/broken, even in the slightest, 100% of the voltage may not get to the plugs if they get wet.

I should have footholds installed as of tonight. Ride all day Sunday. Hopefuly there will be some surf, I want to clean up my roles a little more:haha: :sneaky:
