Super Jet Aluminum wide rails?

I think you will be stuck using 100% mechanical attaching system with UHMW. Our local plastic place told me no glue will stick to it so I believe you won't be able to turf over it either.

Maybe a 2x3" aluminum angle? With some thing thick like 1/4" material, you could drill and tap so you end up with flush bolts on the underside. Probably sand both surfaces and thicken some epoxy with West 403 or something and glue them on as well.

If you don't want the full 2" or 3" dimension, you can rip them in a table saw.

Obviously to make the front curve, you will need to take small wedges out of the horizontal portion. Done right, then turfed over and you'd never notice.

This type of thing crossed my mind when I was thinking about wide rails on my SXR.

The hull I got already had them cut off, that's why I'm putting them back on.

did you ride it first? A lot of folks like the cut rails like that. Notice this is very similar to the Superfreak. http://www.x-h2o.com/threads/105845-2011-Carbon-Superfreak-950-DASA

JJC568, if you look at the freak, the front is smooth, but the rear does have rails

I am not gluing my rails on, I was planing on bolting them on every 6 inches. My new rails I drew up and sent off are 2" on the top, and 1" tall, and on the bottom of the rail they go to 3.25" like a Trinity.

I considered doing this on my FX1 project and people were less optimistic about the results and my reasoning. I prefer working metal over glass as well.

Would you mount them underneath your existing rails to take advantage of the surface area for support?

This has me thinking again... My plan was to use something like 3" angle, 1/4" thick, and towards the rear bend/ flare it out to play with the ride.
I'm intrested in your results... good thread, thinking out of the box. I dig it.

I am hoping for good results. I didn't think of using regular 90*, but that's ok.
I was planing on booting it onto the top of my curent rail and having a backing plate or washers on the bottom. I don't think it would have to much of a difference if it was on the top or bottom, I know my rails are thick compared to a stock hull so the only flexing would be on the angled part.
