It doesn't matter what I tell myself, as soon as I get in the air my brain simply will not let me take my feet out of the footholds! It just feels all wrong. How do you start to do this trick? I guess my biggest worry is not getting back behind the ski enough to miss it when I land (remember: I ride flat, so this is a Stoyer deal - I won't have time to get back in the tray).

Any suggestions?

Yea, I dont know how/why you'd want to leave the ski, it seems it would definetly hurt if you didnt get back on and I can assure you I wouldnt be able to get back on. :haha:

keep your arms fully extended when you kick your legs back brit, thats the first piece of advice.

Second, practice monkey jumps, and setting it up the same way. then kick the ski out but instead of releasing and jumping up, release your legs backwards as the ski goes vertical.

After some time youll be able to get your feet back in the tray on flat. good luck, wear a helmut

seriously though..

  1. keep your elbows in, so they don't hit the gunwhales
  2. extend your arms fully so your face doesn't hit the back of tray
  3. keep em extended untill ski lands in water
  4. turn your head when ya land so your face doesn't smack the water
  5. ya kinda need to setup like you want to do a ball buster (get the nose up)
  6. at the same time you are extending your arms, pull your feet up toward your chest and then kick them straight out (with force) this should be all one motion...
this may sound stupid, but practice holding onto the back of the sofa, or whatever and jump w/ your hands gripped to the sofa (like as if you were holding on to the bars) and practice the motion of jumping and kicking your feet back... It will be like pre-programing your brain to understand the motion... I use to do stupid ******** like this to help me work out things... don't laugh, it works

I can superman off my sofa all day long w/ out stubbing a toe... try it...

does that work? my supermans suck and always have. I don't know if I'm supposed to kick back or let the ski float away or what. I may have to start up some sofa riding.

Adrian-I ain't done, nor have tried it-but-
the reason I keep attempting backys and am not scared is-
done it on a moto-x bike into round bales of hay-which is still scray as hell cuz u got to land in the hay-WOULD NOT attempt it over dirt-on the water?WTF-there is no fear other than the ski hittin u.

So long story short-to make your brain quit fighting u-think about doin it on a moto-x bike, then think about the
water factor instead of dirt-granted-u dont get yer feet back on-its gonna hurt.

the full instruction for sofa supermans

  1. grasp the top edge of sofa approx. the width of your handlebars.
  2. jump a few times transfering your weight to the sofa and feel your upper body take the load.. it's like unweighting the lower half of your body. then let yourself fall back to your feet. (don't try to hold yourself, it should be one motion.
  3. once you are comfortable w/ that, do the same brining you knees up to your chest (not all the way, but that direction) try that a few times
  4. once you are comfortable w/ that, try kicking your feet back a little at a time...

Thanks Nick - good tips. Perhaps I'll try the sofa thing when Suzi isn't in the house though.... :sneaky:

How I learnt.

Make a very steep setupwake and give it a few practice nose up jumps.

I do all of this very slow as im learning. Your feet should also be at the back of the tray like tail stand style....it gives you more nose up and elts you leave faster

Hit the setupwake going slow and just fall off the back easy. and just kinda do that to understand thats its okay.

When your fealing comfortable, jump the wake with a nose up then down motion. Lean back and just give the tray a little push and go flying off the back.

I've landed in the tray once or twice....I'm still working up the courage to hit faster. I need to cut my plate...everytime i hit something faster i can never get any nose up

Good thread man! Big supermans look killer but I they scare me too. I feel like the tray would drop away and go vert and then I would not be able to get my feet vert with it to get them back in.

Crank your pole down hard so it is solid mounted and wont flop around then you have more control/leverage on the ski while your feet are disconnected.
