Respect the surfer and just find another shoulder.

So many of these posts are the problem. Grew up in San Diego, Started surfing at 14 (25 years ago). Jet skis should always respect the surfer and his spot. I have been riding jet skis for almost 10 years now. Jet skis have motors and get to all of the crucial spots on a wave. I love riding jet skis and surfing.
I think the best way to put in words for me is that if I am surfing and some douche bag on a ski tries to take my spot..................I wont splash water at you, But you may be loading your ski and get a left hook that changes your life.

Thats the problem- arrogant DB surfers think they own the ocean. "his spot" WTF???
they need to get over it
I run into the same poop body surfing and swimming around these morons with their fancy boards

Not to take sides (obviously I live nowhere near the ocean), but size matters. Obviously if your own a surfboard, you can't do much against a 250lb jet ski with your little human powered surf board. On the other hand, first come first serve. Too bad you can't just split the beach (like it sounds like they do in Daytona). Is splashing water or slapping it or what ever supposed to scare people? What's the point of that, sounds kinda retarded and pointless lol

i dont understand why you simpleton, landloving rednecks cant get this through your heads...unless you live in daytona beach where they have a designated jetski area it is ILLEGAL to ride a jetski in the surf...so EVERY OTHER watersport user has the right of way..you have no right to be there so show some respect and ride where you can...nobody wants to watch and listen to your pos ski riding around in circles humping the handlebars everytime you jump a wave...

Illegal perhaps in California. Not so in Oregon and Washington.
Motorized craft need to yield to non-motorized craft.
If there are surfers out, don't be a tool and ride a jetski in the middle of it. Seen it happen a few times.
At the same time, if there are jetskis out there, don't be an idiot and paddle your board out in the middle of it.
A lot of this "conflict" would be a non-issue if people had some knowledge of water navigation rules and common courtesy.

operate craft in reasonable, prudent manner;
unsafe or reckless maneuvers endangering people/property include weaving through congested boat traffic, jumping wake unreasonably close to another boat or when its operator's vision is obstructed, swerving to avoid collision at the last moment. Allowances made for participants in professional exhibitions and officially sanctioned events;

observe Slow-no wake, maximum 5 mph speed limit:
-within 200' of a swimmer, surfer, diving flag, bank or wading angler; dock, swim float, ramp, pier, marina, floating home, or boathouse;
-within 100' of any anchored or non-motorized vessel;
-within 200' of shoreline on all lakes, reservoirs, and bays, "safe" (see page ii) take-off excepted;

unless you want to ride @ 5mph whithen 200feet of shore

waveriding on a jetski is illegal period

you can launch and ride 5mph untill u are 200ft from shore...sounds fun

What states do those apply to?

certainly not Virginia Beach this weekend!
I have had surfers try to run me off for surf fishing
their arrogance gets the better of them and they think they own the ocean

Virginia law - PWC operators must maintain "no wake" operation when within 50 feet or less of docks, piers, boathouses, boat ramps, people in the water and vessels other than PWCs. PWCs may tow a skier with a rope less than 50 feet. No wake is defined as "The slowest possible speed required to maintain steerage and headway."

thats oregons pwc law

I don't see anything anything at all in there applying to surf riding, specifically your interpretation of having to ride 5mph within 200ft of shore (we're not taking about lakes or bays here.
Having talked to various law enforcement officials throughout the last six years in Oregon Beach communities, there is absolutely no sentiment that riding PWC in surf is illegal in Oregon (nor is it supported by the text you quoted).
This is further supported by the fact that environmental groups have tried to make it illegal in OR in the past and have failed.
Sorry.

the same laws apply to lakes as well as the ocean...just because they don't enforce it doesn't mean its not on the books...just like pismo..they dont enforce it but the rule is no vessel shall operate within 200yards or something of a breaking wave..you cant just drive your fishing boat through the surf..your jetski is governed by the same rules..didnt someone just get killed surfing by a rowboat in oregon??

according to your theory because it dosnt specifically state the rules regarding the ocean you can do anything you want?

you have to be pretty stupid to cast a hook where people are in the water...typical jetskier

I was there long before they showed up, then they tried to run me off!
YouTube Surfer Fights and watch these DBs beat each other up because they "own" a wave or break or stretch of beach
Bunch of A-holes!

then that would be the time to reel it in and go back to your trailer and watch nascar and drink beer for the rest of the day!
ive been surfing for 20 years i dont need to watch youtube videos to form a slanted, general opinion against a large group of people
