Super Jet how should i break in this new engine?

getting my b pipe gaskets from jetmaniac today.gonna be on the water by tomorrow hopefully.just wondering what the best way to break in a new engine would be?i heard riding for about 5 min then letting it cool was necessary.then keep doing that for about a tank of gas.does that sound right.gonna be a pita.or should i just commit to nothing more than half throttle for a full tank? then im good?its a new crank, lamey ported 61x,r&d billett head,175 psi 83mm wiseco's and a TL ingnition.whats the best way to break her in?

I wish I could find the article that was done regarding motorcycle motor rebuilds. A guy did 3 different types of break in's on 3 identical motors and then tore them down to see which one was in the best condition. The report was that breaking it in the way you are going to ride it will seat the rings the best.

Cliffs: Make sure nothing is loose then ride it like you stole it

Get the expensive SBT break in oil....................................................................NOT !

I would not use full synthetic oil first tank...

Very interesting.... would you fog it when done? :clown:

My vote is ride conservatively the first 15-20 minutes, then go ride the sucker.

jetworks recommends keeping the engine under good load (taking hard turns), varying the rpms, and no wot runs on the first 3 tanks. synthetic is also the only thing i have ran in my ski. its the oil with teflon i would stay away from for break in.

heres what i learned.

use mineral oil. because you want some friction for the rings to seat against the cylinders.

keeping load on engine will give pressure to the rings to make em seat well against cylinder.

no wot runs. cause the rings havn´t seated, they will not transfer heat as good as when they have seated and this will make it run hot.

vary rmps. not run extended time on same rpms.

this is how i usualy ride so i just ride as normal. maybe take it out abit ride it by the statements above for a while then just go play.

some people say break it in as you will be riding it. i guess this will work. but it depends on how you ride. if all you do is wot runs i would not break it in this way.

i love these threads!!! scuba steve is right. take it out once and get it to operating temp. come back and make sure everything is fine with it. then beat the crap out of it. all the break in is for is if something comes loose in the motor they hope you're at a low rpm so it doesn't wipe the whole motor out. when i use to race dirt bikes we did a test on breaking motors in. we did a 1997 cr 250. we had two identicle top end sets. i don't remember the exact numbers, this was 13 years ago, but the top end that was broke in soft had almost 4 hp less then the other.

So the synthetic Lucas I've been using is probably not good for the first few tanks?what kind of oil is mineral oil? Or can u tell me what brand to get?
